This is apparently the actual "Viva La Vida" painting. I didn't like the title when I first heard it, but actually looking at the painting makes me love it. Perhaps that is what Chris means by people not understanding at the beginning, but when you understand the impression that the painting must have hhad on Chris that is when you start apreciating it.

you mean the cover to the album? i guess not, there could be some complications about rights of distribution or something.

^I was thinking they could have recreated this picture for the album cover, so that the melons would instead be the faces of Martin & Co, with chris martin taking a bite out of the slice that says Viva La Vida.

Well, no one can just put someone else's painting as a cover. They should they pay something to the author, too and not just keep their earning to themselves.

It sounds like an ill-advised Ricky Martin reference, but it was actually inspired by a phrase inscribed on a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Coldplay's fourth album is to be called Viva La Vida - not Prospekt, as was widely reported - and it will be released on 16 June.

 

Explaining the unusual choice of title, frontman Chris Martin explained: “Everyone thinks it comes from Ricky Martin, which is fine. I've been through this before, naming something or someone and everyone saying, 'That’s a terrible name'. But then saying, 'Well, fuck you, that's what it's called, and I'll be proved to be right eventually'. So when Viva La Vida came along, I was kind of annoyed because I'm going to have to try and convince everybody of this, but it just felt right.”
