Which band should i get into next?

Definitely Maybe - OASIS, another album that is overrated because of 4 or 5 good songs.

DOUBLE POST, I apologise :P

Yeah I've got both those albums.

There's no denying they are great albums, but there's maybe only half of the tracks on those albums that are amazing, there's a lot of filler material. Weaker songs that could have been better, that's what I was getting at. The songs that ARE amazing are out of this world. but I would have liked both of those albums to have every track be as good as the next one.

I guess for me the only song I see as filler on Achtung Baby is Trying To Throw Your Arms Around the World.....every other song I absolutely love.

Same with the Joshua Tree. Some of my favourite songs off that album aren't the big ones like Streets....but rather songs like One Tree Hill, Exit, Running To Stand Still

You shall go ahead with U2. They are so much better then all the other bands on that list.

Isn't it just. I think its the fact it became the next big thing, the next 2 albums Morning Glory and Be here now are brilliant however.

With Blur if you don't like pop remember singles genrally only give you the popiest songs on the album. For me Blur can be just as deep and meaningful and intresting as any other band you listed. Ignore the brit pop years at first and pick up.

Blur s/t - total departure, its an experimental rock album, with great low fi vocals and guitar, I adore the sound of this album.

13 - This is the one I recommend to Radiohead fans, or Muse fans, or Coldplay fans, it weird and experimental.

Think Tank - Takes experimental to the next extreme, this isn't my favorate because of the lack of guitar.

BTW most Blur songs I didn't like at first, but I found that with every band to an extent.

If your going with Travis your basically getting a less good Coldplay. The man who isn't a personal favorate like everyone else, some of the songs are too empty and sentimental but its cohesive at least. The Invisible Band is way better imo though similar, and The Boy with no name is basically just radio friendly tunes from A to B with no depth or variety.

Achtung Baby for U2, Joshua Tree is a total epic but it has some less intresting bits. So does this but its more cohesive in the long run, only So Cruel and Trying to throw your arms around the world annoy me.

My verdict get: The Invisible band, Blur and Achtung Baby

And since your a The Verve fan, make sure you pick up their debut A Storm in Heaven if you haven't already :)

I would say REM. They are easily one of the best bands of the 80's a very important one. I think the only essential album for U2 is the Joshua Tree, since that was their masterpiece.

the crowd has spoken. u2 it is

Blur

They have a few great songs, but also a few horrible songs like this girls and boys shite. :)

In my opinion, REM is the best bet. All 14 of their studio albums are essential to any music collection.

U2 is also essential, as well. I don't know about Travis, I only have one of their albums, but it's very good.
