I find it a bit rubbish that they just stay on that island for so long and well normally you would start either killing each other or making plans to get away or be friends and get a life

They do try to get off the island. THAT is what they're trying to do the whole time. And they do get angry and try to kill each other a lot during the show. And they also try to become friends...
