Viva La Vida Album Artwork

Featured Replies

^^ you just typed Viva la vida or death and all his friends, didnt you ?! ;)

Yeah:)

hmm. i'm really not sure what to think. i was really hoping for original artwork, stuff that no one's ever seen before. that painting was in my european history textbook that i used for two years, so it's kind of weirding me out that it's an album cover. i was just hoping for something more...creative and original, i guess, not just taking something else someone already did years ago that's already famous.

but whatver. i only really care about the music anymore!

According to EMI official website, Viva la Vida or Death and His Friends, to be released on June, has artistic references other than its title. In addition to Frida Kahlo's influence, the album cover is said to be consisted of Delacroix's famous painting, Liberty Leading the People.

I really don't know if it's been already posted, but I've just seen it and considered it a bit strange not seeing it at Coldplaying. And sorry for my English ><'

I KNEW SOMEONE POSTED THIS BEFORE!!!!!!!!!!! HOW DID YOU KNOW!?!??!?

Hard to believe this would be used on a coldplay album cover but here it is anyways.

seriously i'm scared..... how did you guys know this?

haha ohhhh! i saw it this morning and i was like...how do i know this. and then in the middle of school i remembered this thread and i though we mightve had chris in our midst or something. but i guess if it was on that link it's not as wild. it's still really crazy though because people post random stuff like that all the time and i usually disreguard it but this time it was legittt...

even though i was a tiny bit skeptical, i beleived that post at the time, mostly. i guess because EMI was the source, but yeah. i also really hated it at the time! :laugh4: but for some reason, with the title on there all cool like that with the paint splatters makes it damn awesome!

no i COMPLETELY agree. i was just saying that to my friend. i think i hated it at first because i saw the painting by itself awhile back and i thought... how could this ever be a coldplay album cover? but the combination of the painting and the crazy splatters and the messy yet perfect VIVA LA VIDA makes it AMAZING.

^ Yeah, I was expecting the words "Viva La Vida" to be a lot smaller on the cover, but the fact that they cover such a big area of the canvas, and that there are paint splatters everywhere, definitely improves it a lot

I also find it interesting that "Coldplay" does not appear on the cover. It is a complete departure from their previous album covers, for sure.

It really is an awesome cover. MUCH better than the X&Y covers!
