We will probably know about the artwork before May 6th, if Violet hill is really released on that day. They cant show us the single artwork before the album artwork (because i'm sure the two will be related as it has always been the case with their previous artworks).. or can they ?!

is the new album going to be called "Viva La Vida or Death & all his friends", "Viva La Vida" or "Death & all his friends"?

EMI have officially announced that the album will be called "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends"

According to EMI official website, Viva la Vida or Death and His Friends, to be released on June, has artistic references other than its title. In addition to Frida Kahlo's influence, the album cover is said to be consisted of Delacroix's famous painting, Liberty Leading the People.

I really don't know if it's been already posted, but I've just seen it and considered it a bit strange not seeing it at Coldplaying. And sorry for my English ><'

Hard to believe this would be used on a coldplay album cover but here it is anyways.

Ooooh, thanks!

The new album from COLDPLAY, VIVA LA VIDA OR DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS, expected for June, brings other artistic references, in addition to the already mentioned Frida Khalo inspiration in the long title of the album. The cover depicts a famous canvas of Eugene Delacroix (painter of French Romanticism), "Liberty Leading the People" of 1830. On that famous screen, Delacroix painted a reflection of the political struggles that took place in the France of that time: the Revolution of July 1830, the abdication of Charles X to the throne and the coronation of Louis-Philippe.

Track listing - Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends

^And I was just about to post that picture! I wonder if it IS the album cover, or whether its just inspired by it.

Well, I can see it working actually. It really fits! Yes it would be a deviation from what they usually do with album art, but again, this is Coldplay 2.0...everything's going to be different. Whether they use the actual painting, or just reference it in original artwork, I like it.

I'm starting to notice Coldplay breaking onto the ART scene, it's like, alot of "Coldplay 2.0" has alot of references to art. not just the frida khalo thing but now this. (AND the song "Famous Old Painters")

I don't think that painting itself will be the cover, maybe just a small part of it in the dead centre of the cover.

Who knows, but I'm definitely interested by the fact coldplay are using lots of art references

I found it pretty strange, and EMI Brazil used to be not a very reliable source. On the other hand, I don't see them coming with this idea from nowhere and they've started this week a new campaign to promote their artists, using message boards (where I iniatially saw this article). I'm trying to get in touch with them and, as soon as I get an answer (if I ever get one), I'll let you know. ;)

Chavi, Justin is probably right.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I was kinda hoping it'd be longer than that though!! They could release it in a huge great long box as well, or a fold-out booklet just to fit the cover art on!! :L
