April 23, 200818 yr even though i think it's a nice cover, i don't believe it's legitimate and i don't think it's very "coldplay." frankly, i think that tiny little avatar-sized thing with the violet paint blobs and the letters VH on it is more coldplay.
April 23, 200818 yr Author Lower case letters on album designs are not new. Heh... all lower-case on anything is not new, for that matter! It'd be like asking why COLDPLAY is written in all caps :)

YOUR SIG!! I had no idea they spelled out the album name during will's vid :stunned: that is SO clever, and the vid was ages before the release of the album name
April 23, 200818 yr Author frankly, i think that tiny little avatar-sized thing with the violet paint blobs and the letters VH on it is more coldplay. Maybe something like this? (note: the following is just something I quickly whipped up in photoshop! definitely nothing official here lol :D)
April 23, 200818 yr You wanna hope that VH1 don't get a hold of that, they might steal it from you and just add a "1" :o
April 23, 200818 yr I like the album artwork. Its cool!! Anyway, is that a man behind it in the actual picture? It kinda looks like it, can somebody enlarge it please???Thanks
April 23, 200818 yr Author heres the artwork I wonder if the actual CD single will have different artwork (this is the NME LP vinyl sleeve). If it's not the same, it'll probably be similar
April 23, 200818 yr I wonder if they will use a new type of font in the cd... i like Albertus Medium font or whatever's is called..
April 23, 200818 yr i have to say that i kind of miss the alberta font too, but whatever. all i really care about is the music and the guys staying themselves. other than that, i won't *really* complain about anything :P
April 23, 200818 yr hahahahah yeah me too.. but i like the font.. it was part of my life ¿? what I really REALLY want now.. it's to hear Violet Hill!!
April 26, 200818 yr It's awful. It looks like a cheap photoshop layer-effects job to me. And the glow function is a dead-giveaway. Hell, even the emboss on the COLDPLAY logo is obviously photoshop's work.

April 27, 200818 yr Author i love it. Seeing as how the NME vinyl looks quite different, I think it's safe to say that this is not the artistic direction the designer(s) will be using for the actual album art and subsequent singles. :( It's a shame really, this one was really starting to grow on me! :D
April 27, 200818 yr I was guessing the NME cover was based on the actual V'D cover, but I guess we'll know soon. I thought "real" designers DID use Photoshop, lol.
April 27, 200818 yr I thought "real" designers DID use Photoshop, lol. Yes they do, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator are the industry standards (at least when I studied design, anyway). BUT, there are certain functions of those programs that no self respecting designer with any proper training would ever use, because they make the work look cheesy and amateurish. It would mean never being hired again because any potential clients would think you didn't have a clue what you were doing.
April 27, 200818 yr Author I thought "real" designers DID use Photoshop, lol. They use DesignerShop . It's so secret and professional that no one is allowed to know about it ;) Needless to say, DesignerShop does not come with Emboss or Glow effects. :laugh3: (ok. enough of that hehe - back on topic, I can't wait to see these new covers. the painted style will be a fantastic change from their minimal artworks used during the X&Y days.

Indeed - it really is "less is more" in that whatever effects you decide to use, they shouldn't clearly stand out until you toggle them on and off. i.e., subtlety is crucial, and composition is essential. I agree with xcitindesigns when he was talking about the emboss and glow - sure a professional designer can use those to some degree, but if they stand out so greatly that they can be pointed out in half a second, then cheesiness sets in and professionalism wanes. It's exactly like editing video. Star-wipes, cross-dissolves, glow, bouncy text, etc. All neat effects, all pretty much never used in real production.
