Mimixxx
This is really anything interesting but heyho, it's news that distracts us from waiting around for Violet Hill. In the black: singer is estimated to have built £10m fortune "She might be married to a man who is in jail, battling drug addiction and the subject of a police investigation into an alleged assault, but life's not all bad for the singer Amy Winehouse. One recent poll found that the 24-year-old is the "ultimate heroine" for Britain's young people, and she has just been nominated for three Ivor Novello awards. Yet perhaps more comforting to Amy Winehouse is the fact that she is really rather rich. She makes her debut in this year's Sunday Times Young Music Millionaire's list, entering at number 10 in the list of the top 100 richest people in music in Britain aged 30 and under. Her estimated fortune is £10m. Other new entries include the X-Factor winner Leona Lewis in 14th place, with an estimated £6m. Corinne Bailey Rae, whose husband died of a suspected drug overdose last month, and Natasha Bedingfield are also both worth £6m. Top of the list is Dhani Harrison, son of the late Beatle George, who shares a £160m inheritance with his mother, Olivia. The highest new entry in the list is the Manchester-born fashion model Karen Elson who is in sixth place and who shares her £25m fortune with her husband, Jack White, of the White Stripes. The British-Georgian singer Katie Melua, who released her first album, Call Off The Search, at the age of 19, has more than doubled her wealth to £18m, taking her to seventh place. Others in the list include the violinist Vanessa-Mae, said to be worth £32m, Joss Stone (£12m) and Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson (£11m). The Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins is reckoned to be worth £9m, the 28-year-old jazz pop star Jamie Cullum £5m. Three of Coldplay's members also make it on to the list, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion, are each estimated to be worth £30m. The band's frontman, Chris Martin, only misses out because he is 31. Winehouse, who is currently working on another album with the producer Mark Ronson, is believed to have accrued the lion's share of her wealth through sales of her 2006 album Back to Black. She is also rumoured to have signed a £1m book deal with the publisher Penguin to write about her marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil, who is currently in prison on remand over a charge of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. Police are expected to question Ms Winehouse about an alleged attack on a 38-year-old man in north London at 3am on Wednesday. The man has told police that he was headbutted by a woman outside the Bartok bar in Camden. She won five Grammys at this year's awards and was nominated for three Ivor Novello awards this week – two in the best song category and one in the most played British song category for Rehab." Saffire
It's possible they could be worth that much, particularly if they invested wisely and have iron-clad pre-nups. Wealthy people are called "accredited investors" which gives them the legal right to invest in far riskier (and far more rewarding) things than average Joes. While your mutual fund probably returns 10% a year on average, a decent hedge fund can return anywhere from 30% a year to 80% fairly consistently. So done right, they could be doubling their money every 2 to 3 years. Not bad.

RunForTheHills
Well its not all that surprising, seeing as they've had two massive worldwide tours, and three albums each with an average of 10 million sales. Still though, I don't really have a problem with it, since they make great music, so in my mind they deserve their wealth. And besides, hopefully it means that they'll carry on for many years to come.

ApproximatelyInfinite
same here  well maybe it's because George is my favorite Beatle :uhoh: same! and he's the spitting image of his father :shy: anyway, yes, i think that's definitely right, and i think that they deserve it as well. they make great music and they're great people that don't live the "rock star" lifestyle with that money. i can't think of better people to be on that list. Tnspieler1012
they're so high up on the list because, unlike some other bands, coldplay splits the money up evenly among the bandmembers.
cpfan50
Everyone should remember that this is just an estimate, based on potential worth. Not what they actually have in their bank accounts, or at their disposal. They probably don't actually have anywhere near this. Not only is it based on what they are considered worth, not what they acutally earn, it doesn't take into account taxes they have to pay, the 10% of their wages they give to charity, the cost of touring, cost of people's wages, what they have spent etc. I don't think that people should take this figure too seriously! Mimixxx
^30 mil a piece is still £120 million which is still wildly unbelievable even accounting for everything else.
