Sophomore Albums "jinx"

Pseudonym

Recommended Posts

I know everyone always believes there's a "Sophomore jinx" on bands as far as their second album. Yet bands like Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, Radiohead, and Keane were immune to this with A Rush of Blood to the Head, Under the Table and Dreaming, The Bends, and Under the Iron Sea, respectively.

Since many bands I like didn't go through this jinx, it gives me confidence in the bands like Mat Kearney, Daughtry, and The Fray, all of whom have upcoming sophomore albums.

What do you think?

Your theory actually makes sense. :P

Hopefully it's right, then! I can't wait to see what Mat Kearney and The Fray have coming up. :D

I know, although "technically" Mat Kearney already had an album before Nothing Left to Lose, but few have even heard of it and it mostly has just different versions of NLTL songs.

that song is amazing the first time i heard i loved it its on my ipod :D

mine too. Although I liked the first music video for it better than the new one. You know, the one with the band playing with some random light going thru the woods?

I liked that one better than the one showing all the kids. Any idea what Im talking about it?

The Fray's new one's called Plans, according to Wikipedia.

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE GOT THERE FIRST!!!!

You can come up with a better title than that!

yeah, wiki knows all.

Yeah but The Fray is better than Death Cab!

Well...

I think when a band is rushed to release their 2nd album by the record label, they don't have enough time to allow the songs to settle, road-testing them etc.

Unlike for a debut album, when for some bands, by the time the songs have been recorded for the debut album, they have been around in various forms for a few years being changed when on the road.

Hopefully the wait for Blackbud's 2nd album will be worth it

blackbud is still around? i saw them a few years ago and loved them, but for some reason i thought they broke up. maybe that was Black Wire :) I get them kind of confused with all the 'black' band names.
