Yeah, this really upset me when I heard the news today. We have a pretty good little country here, but our (in)justice system has a terrible record of putting the innocent away and letting the guilty go free. Hopefully, since the guy truly must be mentally ill, he'll end up on a locked ward the rest of his life where he can't hurt anyone else. I feel sorry for the mental torment he apparently was going through, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be held accountable for such a heinus crime.

Well I would argue that all criminal activity (particularly violence) has mental illness at its root.

To some degree or other, you're probably right. 100% of the population have some dysfunction or other, but there's a difference between being psychotic and just being an asshole (lol). This guy genuinely needs help, but they can give it to him off the streets, and I doubt he'll ever be rehabilitated, judging by the nature of his illness.

Besides, I've been on a locked ward (as a visitor, not a resident, lol) and they're NOT pleasant. They're worse than jail, imo, because everyone there is crazy. It's a tough atmosphere to handle.

Anyway, I ramble. I just hope he doesn't get a walk for it.

^Yeah, it's heavy stuff. :( Worse if you live where it's in the paper every day.

I doubt that they'll ever let him out. He's clearly deeply disturbed, and they realize that.

(Good to see you back, Tracie. :nice:)
