The Sun: Coldplay to rush release new album

Featured Replies

I didn't know the sun wasn't legit ! well I'm still holding my breathe for that EP in March '09 that has been confirmed by the band serval times so... it's more likely !

actually i wasn't surprised by this news. Think of all the songs that prospekt mentioned that weren't on the album. I can definitely see something along the lines of a "b-sides" album being released, or at least an EP. Very cool.

i personally feel that i want a album next year!

or else even an EP is enough if they release.

because if there is no coldplay i feel really dull in my life.:(

That appeared in today's Sun newspaper...

Record label EMI have rubbished reports which claimed Coldplay were keen to complete their contract with the major label.

A report in this morning's Sun newspaper claimed the band could release a new album within the next year, which would be followed by a greatest hits record.

But a spokesman for EMI has denied the “inaccurate” claims, telling Gigwise: “Coldplay are signed to a long term record deal with EMI and are committed to produce a number of albums.”

And, contrary to the claims in the newspaper, which suggest Coldplay may want to head out on their own, the spokesperson added: “The band's relationship with EMI is both long-term and positive.”

Coldplay's relationship with EMI has been under the spotlight since the record label's 2007 takeover by private equity company Terra Firma.

The band are currently touring their recent number one release, 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends'.

Long term and positive? Whilst they've been diplomatic about it the band have made it perfectly clear that they don't intend on it being long term at all.

Poor EMI are in a state of denial :P

It was long-term back in 2000 or whenever the band signed up, but if it 6 albums (which was the norm). When the deal is over, Coldplay are a free agent, world at their feet, free to do whatever they want.

I know it was, but EMI are talking like it's still long term. Which it isn't at all.

Then again at the rate Coldplay put out albums they've probably got another 6 or 7 years yet :dozey: :P
