The Sun: Coldplay to rush release new album

COLDPLAY are plotting a surprise album which could appear little more than a year after Viva La Vida conquered the planet.

The quartet already have the spine of the collection in place thanks to their super-productive recent studio sessions with BRIAN ENO.

And if CHRIS MARTIN, BERRYMAN, JONNY BUCKLAND and WILL CHAMPION follow up their new offering with a greatest hits collection they will have fulfilled all commitments to their record label, EMI.

That would pave the way for them to follow PAUL McCARTNEY and RADIOHEAD out of the door.

A source at the label said: “The Viva La Vida sessions were incredibly fruitful. They gelled brilliantly with Brian and recorded much more music than they could fit on one album.

“The majority of the follow-up is already in the can, though they will have to go back into the studio at some point to add a few more songs.

“Standard industry contracts tend to be for six albums, so if they provide some kind of compilation after their next album they will be free agents and able to renegotiate their contract or head out on their own.”

EMI was taken over by a finance firm last year and many of the artists signed to it at the time bitterly opposed the deal.

Macca and Radiohead have already walked while the management of ROBBIE WILLIAMS have expressed severe reservations about the new regime.

The formerly beardy pop knob even started a futile “strike” in protest.

Chris Martin, however, has kept a very tactical silence on the subject and where the band’s future lies.

But he has hinted that he wants to get new material out as soon as possible.

When discussing a collaboration with KYLIE MINOGUE that didn’t make the final cut for Viva La Vida, he let slip: “It will be on a record we will put out in 2009.”

But, with global titans such as MADONNA and JAY-Z forgoing multi-million-pound record deals with concert promoters, I wouldn’t be surprised if Coldplay do part company with their home in the next couple of years.

In order to record Viva La Vida, which was released in June, the group constructed their own studio in a disused bakery in North London.

The gap between their previous album X&Y and its follow-up was a whopping three years and the band are keen to reduce the time between albums drastically.

Their touring commitments run up until the end of the year – but they are likely to announce a string of new shows in Australia and the Far East soon.

All this points to a late summer release next year for Coldplay album number five, which is a very good thing.

yay !!!!!! and EP in March and a possible album next summer ?!!

*THUD*

I'm not getting my hopes up.

All The Sun have done is rehash old, old quotes and forge it into a story.

It would be cool, obviously, but the Oracle and Chris (at eTalk) have both said there won't be another album next year. I think those spare songs will be going on the EP.

New Coldplay Album Set For Release?

2429084.jpg

Reports circulating suggest Coldplay are putting the finishing touches to another album for release within a year.

The Sun is reporting today that Coldplay are preparing for the release of a surprise album within a year of Viva La Vida hitting stores. Productive recording sessions with Brian Eno has left many more unused songs in the can, which the band are now considering releasing.

The Sun’s source at the label said: “The Viva La Vida sessions were incredibly fruitful. They gelled brilliantly with Brian and recorded much more music than they could fit on one album. Standard industry contracts tend to be for six albums, so if they provide some kind of compilation after their next album they will be free agents and able to renegotiate their contract or head out on their own.”

The band are currently Xfm DJs for the month of August having already broadcast three parts of their ‘Residency’ show. Listen to them all again here.

Woo-hoo!!! But not like we didn't know this anyway.

I don't think there will be an EP and a new album next year my friend, one or the other. Still great news though as it seems it's now a dead cert that something will be released

I'm not really into British newspapers - but isn't The Sun a tabloid? :P

Take it with a pinch of salt.

I think an EP is a stronger possibility. Maybe with single no 3.

Anyhow who says an EP is confirmed?

And didn't coldplay promise 2 seperate singles.

I knew it!!!! i posted this idea somewhere!!! Ta Da!!!! Now maybe a quick trip to MSG?

 we'll see.. but still *fingers crossed*

Coldplay to release fifth album in 2009

coldplay-concert_793977c.jpg

Coldplay are planning to release a fifth album in 2009, just a year after their last chart-topping offering, Viva La Vida.

The band, fronted by actress Gwyneth Paltrow's husband Chris Martin, have been exceptionally productive after collaborating with musician Brian Eno.

It is believed they have already chosen many of the songs for the new album, which were recorded during the making of Viva La Vida, and with the help of Eno.

A source at their record label, EMI, said: "The Viva La Vida sessions were incredibly fruitful. They gelled brilliantly with Brian and recorded much more music than they could fit on one album.

"The majority of the follow-up is already in the can, though they will have to go back into the studio at some point to add a few more songs."

If Coldplay go on to produce a greatest hits collection next, they will have fulfilled all commitments to EMI. This will pave the way for them to part company with the label, following in the footsteps of Radiohead and Paul McCartney.

The EMI source said: "Standard industry contracts tend to be for six albums, so if they provide some kind of compilation after their next album they will be free agents and able to renegotiate their contract or head out on their own."

EMI was taken over by a finance firm last year and many of the artists signed to it at the time opposed the deal. But Coldplay have kept quiet about their future, although Martin has hinted he would like to get out his new material as soon as possible.

Record Label EMI Rubbish Coldplay Leaving Reports

That appeared in today's Sun newspaper...

Coldplay2008_200.jpg

Record label EMI have rubbished reports which claimed Coldplay were keen to complete their contract with the major label.

A report in this morning's Sun newspaper claimed the band could release a new album within the next year, which would be followed by a greatest hits record.

But a spokesman for EMI has denied the “inaccurate” claims, telling Gigwise: “Coldplay are signed to a long term record deal with EMI and are committed to produce a number of albums.”

And, contrary to the claims in the newspaper, which suggest Coldplay may want to head out on their own, the spokesperson added: “The band's relationship with EMI is both long-term and positive.”

Coldplay's relationship with EMI has been under the spotlight since the record label's 2007 takeover by private equity company Terra Firma.

The band are currently touring their recent number one release, 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends'.

Will Canadian fans be able to get the EP?

I'm not getting my hopes up.

It would be cool, obviously, but the Oracle and Chris (at eTalk) have both said there won't be another album next year. I think those spare songs will be going on the EP.

Yes, and on eTalk, Chris said that they had tried out a song (presumably Death Will Never Conquer) at the concert the previous night, and that song will be on an EP coming out next year...

Anyone know for sure when next year (March, was it?) and will North America be able to get their hands on it?

this is a load of rubbish, there wont be a new album next year. ep seems much more likely. i just want new coldplay songs. but album is definitely out of the question.

i don't know really what to think about this. the fact that lots of sources are now jumping on the bandwagon and reporting the same thing makes me wonder, but i think that the band themselves don't even really know what the plan is. they might have vague hopes to put out another next year like chris and guy have mentioned in interviews this summer, but they're on tour right now and i would imagine that's their priority right now, so i doubt they have any concrete plans to get back into the studio even for a little while like the article says. i think this is a huge "wait-and-see" type deal, because i don't think anyone knows what's going to happen for sure, even the guys themselves.

they're perfectionists and they're touring untill mid 2009 or pretty far in how are they going to manage all of that?
