David Heiss, 21, a trainee sales representative, was held five days after Matthew Pyke was discovered in a pool of blood by his girlfriend Joanna Witton in the flat where the couple ran an online fan site dedicated to a handheld computer game. Police were investigating the possibility that Mr Pyke, who was due to enroll at university next month, had been targeted in a revenge attack after becoming involved in a dispute with a member of the site. Mr Pyke's body was discovered on Friday. On Thursday police confirmed a man had been arrested in Germany over the murder but refused to officially confirm or deny it was Mr Heiss for 'operational reasons'. But relatives of the trainee sales representative said he had been arrested 'over something happening in England'. One anonymous member of Mr Pyke's site posted a message after the killing suggesting that other forum members may have known who was behind the killing. 'We may know a lot of what was going on prior to the killing, but I, for one, am not going to say any more,' he said. Although the Advance Wars game was originally played on the Nintendo Game Boy and Nintendo DS hand-held consoles, the latest version can also be played over the internet. In the games players command armies in a battle to wipe out an enemy force on a grid-based map. Police were still examining the Nottingham flat where Mr Pyke was killed on Thursday and were trying to find the murder weapon. Detective Chief Inspector Tony Heydon appealed for anyone who had seen a 'bladed weapon, possibly bloodstained', to come forward. Wars Central, the website devoted to the Advance Wars computer game, run by Matthew Pyke and his girlfriend Joanna Witton He said he also wanted to hear from anyone who saw someone in the area wearing bloodstained clothes. Mr Pyke - who was due to enroll at Nottingham Trent University - moved to the city from his home town of Stowmarket, Suffolk, two years ago, to start a physics degree which, but later dropped out of the course. He became romantically involved with Miss Witton, an environmental science undergraduate, around the same time. His parents William, 52, and Kim, 49, left a tribute on his Facebook website saying: 'Darling Matthew. We love you so much and miss you. 'You were a truly good, sensitive person. Your smile will live on in our hearts.' Matthew Pyke's older brother, Adam, 24, who works in security for St Edmundsbury Borough Council in Suffolk, described himself as 'crushed' on his MySpace internet page. Miss Witton, who was born in Nottingham but grew up in Selby, North Yorkshire, was being comforted by relatives at a secret address on Thursday.

It is believed that Heiss flew to the UK to kill Pyke after an altercation on the website. Suspicions were aroused after Heiss sent a Facebook message to Pyke's girlfriend after the murder. "I will pray for you. You must be suffering unbelievable pain. I'm sorry for having caused so much trouble lately. I hope you won't lose all your hope. We will be there for you," wrote Heiss, according to a report in The Times. Heiss is now in custody, and the UK and German police forces are discussing a possible extradition to England for questioning. "Limburg-Weilburg police have arrested a 21-year-old man from the rural district of Limburg on suspicion of murder," reads a statement from the German police force. "He was arrested by officers from the West-Hessen police headquarters in Hunfelden on suspicion that on 19 September he killed a man in Nottingham with a knife," The site is currently closed to the public explains a brief message posted on the homepage by a user named eggy.
