I was just watching the "Lovers In Japan" music video (for like the millionth time), and I finally realized Coldplay really is the greatest band in the world right now. Their songs have come together to blend between their own original style, as well as that U2-esque Brian Eno sound that they have brought to a new level. You can see it in them, they just have this new confidence and they seem like a band that is destined for greatness.

I have always been jealous of those who were around to see U2 during their colossal rise to worldwide stardom. I always wondered what it must have been like to watch a band rise so quickly to become loved across the globe. And now, with Coldplay, I am experiencing that. It's amazing how much criticism they still received (both publicly and privately) after the success of X&Y. Yet since VLVODAAHF, it seems like everyone has a new found respect for them. All I hear are great reviews, and even people I know who always made fun of Coldplay are now talking about how great of a song "Viva La Vida" is. It's just so much fun to me to see my favorite band so comfortable with themselves, dominating the music scene, seeming very much like the greatest band in the world.

Something about the combination of their roots, their new sound, and their indescribable bond with one another makes them the most refreshing thing to think about to me. And apparently, I'm not alone in that mindset. They have been able to bring such joy and happiness to so many people without having to change who they are.

So I just want to say thanks to Coldplay. From the opening chords of "Don't Panic" to the fading ending of "The Escapist", from the straining notes of "Yellow", to the explosively inspiring finish to "Death and All His Friends", form the heart-pounding beginning of "Politik" to the heartfelt lyrics of "Fix You" and everything in between...thank you. Coldplay has saved lives, made lives, opened eyes, and given countless people exactly what they needed in their lives.

Thank you Coldplay, thank you Coldplaying.com, and thank you to all my fellow Coldplay fans who have helped bring the guys to where they are today.

I agree with absolutely everything you said, Nick. Coldplay has changed my life immensely- even in just the past few months. I can't imagine a better group of 4 than Chris, Jonny, Will, and Guy.

I totally agree with you and your analysis. Thanks for sharing your thoughts which are actually ours too.

Rooting for someone sound so weird here in aus. Anyway, the reason I didn't repsond was because I wasn't here. It was a lovely post and I believe what we are experiencing now is the rise of the modern day U2.

that's how I see it, and it greatly excites me! Now I get my own U2 (Coldplay) and my own JFK (Obama)!!:D:D

well they've changed my lifestyle so much.

give applause for the writer :D

:D

We've had many threads like this. and while it's dicey to compare them to other decades, I contend they are the single biggest band to arise in the new century. They're always compared to 90s bands like Radiohead, or classic bands like u2 because there really are no other bands who started in this decade that can compete with coldplay's immense magnitude and success.

I've read it!:D, I totally agree, I am so happy they have got into the limelight and they got their first UK Number One aswell! :D, They are brilliant and to be honest I find U2 a bore and just over the top and arrogant!

Well done Nick though for a great speech, maybe one day your band will be back and you will become a bigger band than Coldplay and maybe even become President!

Well right now my band is back (for the moment, we'll probably break up again tomorrow:P), but I don't think we'll ever be bigger than Coldplay!

As for President...:wiseguy:

Very nice and true words, I really like what you have written :)

I think the great thing about Coldplay is, that they are still as friendly and polite as in the beginning of their existence. I think the best example for their niceness is Melanie, hehe :D
