Darlene_Ihnfsa
I don't use to open threads... but when i switched on my laptop today it did that: make a beep beep beep sound, and the screen kept black.... i took off the battery, put it again, and it keeps doing the same, there are no reset button... and seems the problem is something technical that affects the screen and the keyboard. (i have to say at this point that we have had re-installed the laptop like a week ago). my dad tried to get to the BIOS but it beep again when he press any key. :dozey: He put the OS disc and it keeps doing the same, beep beep and the screen black... it seems it tried to read the cd content but as the screen is like off we can't see any menu. any idea of what it can be? we are going to take it to the technician tomorrow as today is holiday but i don't know what the problem will be. :( I think there's some problem related with the screen, but i didn't hitted it or anything so that it fails :\

Darlene_Ihnfsa
can you tell me how often it beeps and the manufacturer of your laptop? when i switch on the laptop it does beeps 3 times... (about when it should load the root menu (i used to have Ubuntu too) then if i press any key it beeps. manufacturer?.. i bought it in a big mall here, is still on "warranty" period. OS: windows vista. label: HP Pavilion i never had problems of this kind since i have it (last june 2007). anyways what you think it may be the problem? :\
winnie
This has got to be a problem with the internal memory (RAM) of your laptop. If it's still under warranty then take it to the technician tomorrow - it shall be repaired soon, as it's a common issue with computers. No promise, though, but it should turn out to be not so bad ;)

tifosi
I had something similar when I turned on a usb connected external drive when booting up... confused the bios. This may be something similar. I removed the battery & ext power, left it for a while, then booted it back up from battery. Remove all connected devices and try that. It could also be: motherboard issues, broken graphics, dodgy ram. S

Black Rose
i think there's a virus there... I don't think so, from the sounds of things, with the beeps to tell you the laptop has failed the "Power-on self-test", and from the sound of the 3 beeps it sounds like a "Base memory read/write test error". RICK8
Yeah my computer did the same thing when the RAM was faulty, replacing it fixed the problem.

Darlene_Ihnfsa
wow i didn't checked that thread for more answers as the laptop is already on a repair shop... (btw they should had phoned me telling me how it is and so what was the problem with it) thanks S Tifosi, i think it must be some technical problem... i don't think there's anything related with any usb as i didn't used it that much and less the previous days before it failed. btw it even don't let me to get to the BIOS. yep Rick, if it were a normal computer or we were more experienced on laptop we surely would had repaired it ourselves. as we've done with my dad's computer many times (for instance some days ago he has got a better RAM memory). @ nick: i hope mine is not dead, is only 1 year old or so. :o

tom295
This could possibly be many different things! It could be RAM issues, CPU issues, or worst Motherboard issues
