Interesting 'Parachutes' article

Featured Replies

Just stumbled across this and thought I'd share it with you loverly people :D Sorry if it's been posted up before. It's an interview with Ken Nelson and he's talking about the recording of 'Parachutes' and there's a track by track description of how each track was recorded. A very interesting read :D

Thanks for that! (:

I never knew that Guy was the one who came up with 'Look at the stars'. I'd always thought it was Chris.

Cool, so many of the songs were recorded as a live take or one take... Could you imagine them trying to do that now? Chris would probably have a heart attack! :P

I thought it was Chris too, just shows you absolutely anything can inspire a song. Just think if Guy hadn't of looked up at the stars that night, Yellow might never have been written! :shocked2:

:laugh3: I think on the next album it would be really nice for them to keep it simple with the 4 of them jamming in a room. Would be nice to see them return to where they started :D

^ Well Chris said in some interview that, in the end, a lot of the VLVOD tracks were basically live takes... But I think he meant without the obvious additions of other instruments, etc.

Eno made them record a lot of the songs live together this time around. That's why there's more energy in them and if you listen closely you can hear Eno yelling in the background on a couple of them. :nice: :laugh4:

Thanks for posting the article. I've read it before, but could never remember where. Lots of good stuff in there. :D

I miss the pump organ sound... much better than electronic ones.

I remember they had trouble with 'X&Y' as they did alot of those initial recordings layered and not together live. I remember Chris saying that those recordings just didn't have any soul to them so they re-recorded everything and actually began playing live together again. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in their studio and see how they work, would be fascinating.

I read it some years ago but everytime it's a pleasure to read it again!

That was a nice read. Thanks for sharing!

Great read, thanks for posting :)

"the stars were just amazing. And Guy just came up with the line 'Look at the stars'. "
