is it really like that, chelsea?

i mean... partying, binge-drinking, sex - i thought that was just an image hollywood created...

but i guess european kids have their binge-drinking phase much earlier due to the legal drinking age.

in some ways, i think it's totally mind-blowing that european schools make kids decide exactly what they want to do at such a young age :freak:. how are you supposed to decide what to do for the rest of your LIFE at age 17 or 18?! if i had to make a final decision a few years ago, i would be one stuck, depressed person now. and even though i've decided my major now, it's so open-ended that i would have a lot of potential career options (if i wanted any of them :dozey:).

Well, it's very easy to change to another major if the one i end up studying isn't my thing after all. A lot of people do that in finnish uni's.

But i kind of agree with you. On the other hand it's GREAT that i get to decide what i want to study and that i don't need to study some boring subjects that i'm not interested in..

There's always the option of taking a year off and finding a job and then just travelling around the world, woho!

you can come live with me grace :P

If you're interested in education in California, shoot me a P.M. I have spent a lot of time in the two major public systems (University of California and California State University) and could help you with some of your questions. Good luck and, just remember, being confused about what to do with your life is pretty normal :)

this is so my plan.

all we need are sexy husbands.

ooh, can i join in that hunt too? that would solve a lot of my problems: get married, pop out a kid, and not work for like 10 years

it's EXACTLY like that. of course, some univeristies/colleges have more of that stuff than others, but basically in my experience and in most of my friends' experiences, academics are second to social lives, which almost always include getting piss-ass drunk, going out to a party, and hooking up with people you don't know. an astonishing number of people enjoy that, but i'm biased because i'm a more quiet, calm sort of type and don't like doing ANY of that stuff :P.

and that's true about the drinking age thing. i think the drinking thing is so huge in part because it's illegal, so it's this forbidden thing that most teens find intriguing and rebellious.

anyway, i'm biased and jaded about it all, but YES, it most definitely is like that. every friday and saturday night i lock my door and put my head under my pillow so i don't get harrassed by all the drunks.

i'm taking that offer, jack!

we'll get a house and just hang out all day!

I'm actually a bit ashamed to admit that i think i'd enjoy doing that.. :uhoh:

I'm definitely not a person who spends all her weekends drinking so i don't even know why i find that so "nice". ( i'm 100% sure that it's not THAT much fun to wake up every other day with a hung-over)

:laugh3::cool:Obviously, a bunch of prudes!:P (just kidding!) College partying and a little drinking isn't all bad - as long as it's just for fun, and everyone walks or has a designated driver.. It's the US, and as always, it's a mixed message..(alright, maybe I was bad for having so much fun..) but now who really doesn't like to party at that age?? What would life be like without a room full of dancing, singing students at 2 AM, or kegs in the tub?? Or the track and field team running the "nude mile" during bar time?

It's not THAT hardcore, Chelsea. :) If you see that the studies you're doing aren't for you, you can still change the faculty or uni.

Grace, you'll need to pass the Ielts exam for Australia. Not too sure if any other tests are ok, but this one's definitely the right one. :)

Good luck to all future uni students :nice:

good to know that you're still allowed to change then :D. i guess i thought you weren't allowed to change your mind because i have a friend that goes to cambridge in england, and she's not allowed to change her major at all, i guess because the academics are so intense.

and @ rolle: some people really like that lifestyle, but i HATE it. i want no part of it, and i hate even being around it. for me, it makes college a complete nightmare, but a lot of people really like it.

Maybe it's different with Oxbridge and/or British unis in general, but here you're allowed to change your major.

Though if you have a scholarship, you're kinda screwed.

Don't believe them, Grace! Australia is mostly a desert with lots of strange creatures that make weird noises at night!:laugh3: Look at it - it's isolated! It was a former penal colony!!

There's almost no snow, and their season's are all backwards!! Wild parakeets will pry off your hubcaps, and the Wallabies try and lick salt off you when you sweat!:P

Come to the U.S. It's alive! Our country is a 24/7 party place; the winter is winter, and the summer is summer. There's gambling in Las Vegas and night shows galore; skiing in the mountains - hey, you can attend the University of Nevada Las Vegas!! There's Los Angeles, stars, and the sunset strip.. Hey, and we have the largest fresh-water lakes in the world, and plenty of Irish and German music and festivals in Milwaukee and Chicago! There's the rides at Great America, with Bugs and Daffy, there's Epcot center, Disneyworld, Disneyland, and Mickey and Cinderella & rafting in the mountains, and swimming and biking the Tetons, and the Geyser's at Yellowstone, and clams and beans in Boston, and NY concerts galore, and Philly steak sandwiches, and fishing for Marlins off the Florida coast, and the little fiddler crabs that run around your feet when the tide comes in, and oodles of bands in Austin (including Coldplay at least once, and the Jonas Brothers) and bungie jumping, and sledding down the big hills, and it's filled with people going 90 mph, so one never sees a dull day here.. (unless you hide from it all). :laugh3:

hehe, funny thing is that i actually thought about studying in vegas because my aunt lives there... :nice:

but well. i don't know yet.

maybe even canada would be an option.

what's studying like over there? is the system similar to the one in the us?

Grace' date=' you'll need to pass the Ielts exam for Australia. Not too sure if any other tests are ok, but this one's definitely the right one. :)

i really hope other tests are okay too, since i am going to take the CAE... :inquisitive:

Edit:

Sorry, but I haven't got any advice for you. But I'll wish you luck. =3

So how do you explain Dubya becoming president??

DEAR GOD IT GOT OLD 5 YEARS AGO

That's the talk! It'd be nicer if the guy was both sexy and rich..yumm
Like Guy and Jason Mraz

WORD, nothing but the truth what she has said. BUT it's your life, and your choice how you want to live it. Although I'm outgoing and chatty, I'm not a party person. I prefer going out to the movies, a bar, dancing or something more healthy and quiet. I wonder why people put themselves under such drama and risky behavior  You go to college to learn how to learn, dang it!

Come to Florida, we have 11 public universities with the lowest tuition, even for those international or out-of-state students. I go to the University of South Florida, where we have a LOT of international students. Tampa has tons of good stuff (beaches, ybor city, Busch Gardens theme park, Hyde Park, Tarpon Springs, it's close to Orlando). My sister goes to University of Florida (GO GATORS for 2009football champions!!!), and it's good too.

Well, then maybe Vegas is for you?? UNLV!!!:scholar: Stay with your Aunt, and you're set!

It's warm there, and lake MEAD is nearby. Some nice springs (where the place got it's name), and gee, it would be neat just to be there.. They have a monorail, fascinating entertainment, and it's close to Los Angeles and Salt Lake City..

My cousin worked as a waitress in Vegas and she really liked it. She even landed a part as an extra in a movie once!

But it's up to you. It's probably a bit expensive to live there, and the population is booming like never before.. The desert can get very hot and dry in summer (well over 35 C).. Not that muggy though - it's a dry heat..

I say check the Australian universities' websites to see what the requirements are. Or ask an Aussie. :)

i actually love it there.

it's such a cool place, but i love four different seasons a year. hehe.

however, it'd still be an opportunity, but one of the reasons why i want to study abroad is that i want to be independent and i know my aunt would be constantly watching me. hehe. so i don't know.
