Teach yourself how to play the guitar?

I suggest you forget about lessons, most teachers feign memory loss every time and insist they teach you what they taught you the lesson before = waste of money.

go on ultimate guitar, look up some songs and try the ones that have an easy level of difficulty, to start with. I taught myself that way. Handy hint: make sure you've always got something new to learn, otherwise you go round in circles and get bored/pick up bad habits.

Oh, and go slow, do it perfectly, then go faster.

Amen. Ultimate Guitar. Trust the tabs with the 4 and 5 star ratings.

If you want to ease yourself into guitar, like coldspot said, start with easy tunes with simple chords, etc. Then start getting into the songs with tabs.

I just bought this guitar for myself on Wednesday and have started learning some of the basic chords on my own.

THIS has been an extremely useful site for learning the chords. I have a couple sheets of basic chords, which I plug into the site. That way I can listen to the chord first and hear if I am playing it right. It's interactive! :D

Ultimate guitar is an excellent site! I like to print the pages out and lay them out in front as both of my monitors are too small to see the whole page. Also, I have printed out sheets of basic and advanced chords and practice learning them repetatively...

I would suggest that you buy these two programs

http://www.emediamusic.com/gm1.html

and

http://www.emediamusic.com/igm.html

I used both of those programs and completed them in 6 months. I went from playing a simple C triad on the 3 bottom strings to easily playing songs from Hendrix and Clapton although I spend about 8-17 hours playing. Once you have all that down I would suggest that you take a look at this website.

I've always wondered how you do this:

eh for example

e-----6/----

or

e---/4-----

like a bend or what?

but uh, I mean slide from/to where I want?
