COLDPLAY IS NOT UNORIGINAL!

People who call Coldplay unoriginal really piss me off. I just watched MTV Hits (Top 40) or whatever, and Lovers in Japan came on. How can people not call that ORIGINAL? I mean do they know the deffinition?

I can't believe people would say that when every one of those bands on there now sound EXACTLY the same....You know like Secondhand Serenade and Cute is What We Aim For, and like Panic at the Disco. THEY ALL SOUND THE SAME! Don't gemme wrong, i'm a fan of them too, but they sound the same.

Sometimes I think people think Coldplay is unoriginal because whenever they come out with a new sound people start to copy it........

I don't know, but people who say Coldplay are unoriginal really make me mad. WHAT COULD BE MORE ORIGINAL THAN COLDPLAY? PUPPETS AND AN OLD WOMAN DANCING IN A MUSIC VIDEO? WHAT COULD BE MORE ORIGINAL THAN THAT?!?!?!?

Anyway...post your thoughts....I'm done venting. :D

I'm a huge Coldplay fan, but I would not call them musically the most original band out there. When you exist in the rock/pop spectrum, you're bound to riff off someone's ideas.

Without The Beatles there is no Coldplay. Without U2 there is no Coldplay. Possibly without Radiohead there is no Coldplay.

I think band's can be artistically creative, which would come off in music videos and production value for album covers and websites.

I don't think this is a ditraction. I would not call Coldplay unoriginal, because I think music in it of itself is not something that usually allows for originality.

If people who listen to mainstream music call Coldplay unoriginal, well they should be slapped. :laugh3:

But if someone who listens to music that seems out of this world calls Coldplay unoriginal, well from their perspective it may be true.

Within the pop genre Coldplay may be differentiated, but for those who listen to metal, well maybe it all sounds the same.

People tend to call people unoriginal when they don't understand the nuances (assuming they exist) of a certain musical style.

Hmmm....well spoken footyfan10. I agree. I think that's what I was trying to get across, I'm just not very good at voicing ideas. :) I appriciate other types of music, but there're people who say that Coldplay rips off everyone's ideas....but I don't see how that's possible because their songs don't really sound a ton like those other bands....

AND YOU FORGOT A-HA!

Without a-ha there is no Coldplay or no Chris falsetto.

:D

No no I wasnt saying that everyone into one genre of music will think a band in another is unoriginal.

I'm simply saying that it's a lot easier to group a genre together and call them unoriginal if you like another genre.

I certainly do it. I think Britany Spears, Rihana and Pussycat Dolls all sound similar.

I guess I didn't explain myself too well. Unoriginal simply means they dont come up with their own ideas. Well musicians are constantly influenced. Everytime an album comes out, an interviewer always asks the bandmates what they were listening to while recording the album.

So if you really think about it, no one is completely original. Originality comes in nuances.

i dont think that coldplay are unoriginal, but they're not that different. though i do think that they have developed their sound well and i really havent found any other bands that i think sound like coldplay. maybe they have a similar genre...

but i find it incredibly stupid and ignorant of people to give coldplay such a bad wrap about being "unoriginal" when so many other bands all sound like each other, just with different songs. in those bands, even the singers' voices sound the same. chris martin has a very distinguishable voice. there is definitely not another like it, and i dont think anyone would have trouble knowing when it was him singing. for me, bands like fall out boy, all american rejects, sum 41, my chemical romance...i cant tell the differences between them. i could never just know which band it was if i had to guess.

same with a lot of alternative bands these days.

Ok I agree to Lovers in japan to some extent it sounds very much like U2, but not the whole time.

Maybe Coldplay sounds unoriginal to people who just know their biggest hits. Well they've made so many different songs, the new album is also a proof for their originality, I've never heard such a sound from another band.

The same with Parachutes, or do you know someone who did something similar to Don't panic?
