  1. Wow. Impressed by the new site but not sure what to do! Will take some getting used to.
  2. Can't say I think we're looking at a full album in 2013. They suggested the postponing of the shows was due to "unforeseen circumstances". I really can't imagine they would postpone shows to work on the album. I think they'd consider that being unfair to those fans. If anything I'd think we could get an EP. But having a title doesn't mean anything. They had MX's title in 2009. They're also known, for us fans who follow this type of news closely, for changing their minds and directions quite often. Until we have an announcement or hear about them in mixing, I'd say hold off on strong speculation. But all that said, really have to doubt we'll get a whole album in 2013.
  3. Wow that interviewer was insufferable. The guy that is. Interesting they have the name but doesn't really mean much. Other than that it might put the kibosh on anyone thinking there'd be an EP.
  4. I think the only thing we can say is that the next LP is a long ways off. I don't imagine anything they're writing or recording now would be for an album. I really wouldn't be surprised at all if we got an EP in the next 6 months. There's no reason to assume they would only release an EP within the calendar year of the release of a full album. If anything, it makes a great deal more sense to release an EP truly in between two albums, to keep interest up and to also make sure it doesn't affect either albums sales or impact. With Prospekts, how many truly "new" songs did we get? Life In Technicolor ii was recorded for the album and they decided to go with an instrumental. Postcards was only 40 seconds and instrumental. So let's say that in terms of full songs, fully formed and recorded (as far as we know) separately from the Viva "recording" sessions, we got GoW, RD, PM, and NMFWTTG. So four songs newly recorded. One included that had been recorded for Viva already (again, not saying the others couldn't have been recorded before, just that it is possible they were recorded after). One that was 40 seconds and therefore no great task. Two that were "remixes". So, thats really only four new songs. As far as I can say, it'd be fairly easy for them to put together a four song EP. If they have Hopkins in tow right now, I have to imagine its a more serious moment of recording. They only bring him on when they're close to being done with stuff. As such, have to imagine we'll have new music in the next 6 months. The only thing I think its fair to assume about Coldplay is they take their time with albums. But I don't see them releasing an album till at least 2014 or 2015.
  5. We're not even a year from LP5 so I'm not even going to think about LP6. That said, an EP would be nice...
  6. It may be crazy to some people, but there is something undeniable to me about HLH. I'm a huge fan of the MX era, with the diversity of songs, etc. I'm mostly posting this because I wanted to see if anyone else loved the song as much as I did - I haven't kept up with the forum since the album dropped because no new music and a lot of hate after it came out.
  7. I'm hoping for HLH only because I want a video for it.
  8. Well after hearing Silenced by the Night I'm neither surprised nor engaged. Keane going back to basics is a redundancy. They have always been basics. Personally, Perfect Symmetry, despite being an album I would never listen to all the way through now, has the most interesting sound of any Keane album to me. I wouldn't say it's better than H&Fs, but its not far. This song just seems like...meh. Why bother? My hope is that the rest of the album sounds a bit more interesting and not like most of the unobtrusive stuff Keane put out. It doesn't help that Tom Chaplin's voice has very little emotional range...I'm not saying range, but emotional range. It limits the band a great deal. They'd be better off letting Rice-Oxley sing. At least he'd feel his songs. Listen to Your Love by Keane, you'll see what I mean. Anyways, no way this album will be close to MX. Just as no Keane album approaches a Coldplay album (except maybe...X&Y). Anyway, this is a harsh statement so I expect I may be... SILENCED BY THE NIGHT...blah blah blah... blah blah blah blah blah P.S. After listening to the song a few more times, I am certain the songs limits do fall square on Tom Chaplin. There's an interesting riff in there it's ruined in the mix of the song with his voice so front and center.
  9. While this is an entirely pointless thread, I'll play along by saying that without even hearing the new album I'd know MX would be leagues better. Coldplay are just a better band then Keane. No doubt about it. That said, I do like Keane a lot. But, I've heard clips from the new album and I'm kind of dreading it. It sounds like the band are saying in interviews that they were asked to go backwards. That they got away from who they are with Perfect Symmetry. That's just silly. They learned the wrong lessons from that album (which I think was better than there second by far). Instead of moving forward they're talking about returning to Hopes & Fears type stuff. From the clips I've heard it sounds like that too. Doesn't leave me expecting much from this new one. I HOPE it's great. Always good to have good new music. I just don't expect much.
  10. I love Up in Flames. Absolutely love it. It's passionate in a way that seems absolutely genuine. And its also very different in that it takes some influences from the dubstep movement. Which is cool.
  11. The video is certainly a change of pace for them. Which can only ever be a good thing. I've loved that they seem to be experimenting with their music videos in a way they didn't do prior to Violet Hill. They're more artistic. The whole rave thing comes off kind of funnily because it's like...are people doing this to Charlie Brown? But maybe there are... who am I to say. Either way I think it's a cool new direction. It certainly is a stylish video and I can appreciate that. Mat Whitecross has been doing a fantastic job. Intertwining it with some "story" of that couple doesn't really work too well for me. All the kissing is kind of creepy in a way. I think it might have worked better sans couple or with the whole thing being the couple. Idk...but certainly not bad. I gave it a 7.
  12. Whooooa. Is that the actual single? Where did you (or whoever has it) get it? And does it say only Charlie Brown remixes and live? noooooooo that would suck so much
  13. It seems to be going against the tide, but I find Princess of China to be a perfectly fine song. I've always enjoyed the beat and I think it's actually a pretty powerful song. I honestly don't think many do the tortured woman vibe better than Rihanna (unfortunate that the vibe may actually be honest) so I don't know what's wrong with it. It's obviously better a duet with a girl, as opposed to Chris singing it all or having Will sing a part. The grammy performance might be tough to see though. Getting them in sync might be weird and Chris might also not maintain his cool. Then again, they could hit it out of the park and I think Chris (and the whole band) seem to have finally developed a sense of confidence in themselves. I haven't heard Chris sing so well so consistently live as he has done over the MX era.
  14. Once again, always been a big fan of the way Coldplay have closed their albums. How they work as closers 1. Death and all His Friends/The Escapist 2. Amsterdam 3. Up With the Birds 4. Everything's Not Lost/Life is for Living 5. Twisted Logic As pure songs The same order. It's hard for me to say really, because Up With the Birds may eventually be above Amsterdam, but part of me feels thats too classic. I don't know!
  15. That thing is just for a link to someone selling that popup book on amazon for more than it's list price on Coldplay's website. There isn't anything new. I don't suspect EMI is holding anything up because, in my understanding, b-sides and EPs are similarly poor generators of income. Despite the fact that people buy by the song these days, if the song isn't in an album it just gets much less attention. Which makes me think the band are the only one holding any new tunes up.
  16. Oh course it's fake. No one in the world knew who Jonny Buckland was when that "song" was made.
  17. This is incredibly tough as the openers have always been personal favorites of mine. All these might end up in my top twenty songs (minus square one) so it's very hard to say. I'll make two lists. The first will serve as how the songs work as openers. MX/HLH LIT Don't Panic Politik Square One The second as pure songs, regardless of their placement MX/HLH Don't Panic Politik LIT Square One For one reason or another, maybe it's because its a song I wore out when I first got AROBTTH, Politik just isn't a song I look to listen to. Despite my awareness that its a great song, it doesn't get me personally. I don't have a strong connection to it. And for songs I go back to listen to that aren't current, I generally need that connection. I think it also rocks a little too hard for me. Not that I don't like rocking out songs. Just the smashing drums doesn't do it for me.
  18. okay, the song is relatively clear...US against the world...as in the band through thick and thin against the world.
  19. With the album now fully dropped, I definitely can't understand having Moving to Mars on it. If there had been a single other song we had already heard on the album, I'd blow. I love the last half of the album because its all new. I'm hopeful we get some more music and I almost wish Moving to Mars could have been saved for a five track EP or something. Not that there's any reason to believe that's up the pipeline, but I like songs grouped. And right now it has no grouping! I would say that it still ranks as one of the best songs of this Era though. It's brilliant and I hope they play it live.
  20. Don't really understand where this thread is coming from, because I've never seen Guy look happier. He's never said more in interviews and he seems genuinely into the music they're making. Which you couldn't say before... Honestly, I don't think he's ever been the heart of the music. But I'd say he seems to be now, more than ever.
  21. Everyone is going to have to continue to redefine expectations for sales. First, I've taken all these "largest digital sales record" things with a grain of salt, because you have to consider that we still haven't reached the point where everyone has switched from buying CDs to just buying online. At some point we'll probably reach a place where the normal distribution between physical and digital sales sets in, but I still don't think we have. In my mind this just means that maybe they only broke the digital sales record because less people are buying physical, and therefore bought digital this time around. Perfectly plausible. But honestly, sales really cannot work as a metric anymore. Neither can radio charts. Everything is just too divided. I have not listened to the radio in eight years. If I listen to the radio, I listen to SiriusXM. People have more control than ever over what they buy. So the fact that the band sells any physical copies says A LOT. Album successes are going to be almost impossible to judge from now on, if you aren't just a singles artist. And we know Coldplay aren't.
  22. I haven't yet actually posted a "review" per se, and I don't expect I will because no one will read it anyways. I do disagree that the band are all about fame. If Chris has displayed anything, it is that he dislikes fame and that he loves pop music. He has acted again and again and again like he disdains the attention from the media and press. He doesn't speak about his wife. He's just a chill guy in interviews. You guys realize this is interview time, right? They have to do this. Chris loves pop. And that's just the way it is.
  23. I'm not even sure what you're talking about...? More music? Nothing wrong with asking, but the band have been pretty clear in interviews.
  24. I had my thoughts before the album. Although I think it really depends on how whoever reviews it wants to approach it. Here's the thing we all have to remember about Coldplay - being the biggest band in the world means nearly EVERYONE is going to review your albums. This means people who would never give your music a chance in a million years will review it. It also means people who would lick your sick off the ground will review it. At the end of the day, you can't take too much stock in reviews because so far I've not read a single one that didn't have a bent to it one way or another. People delegitimize their reviews when they offer some general slap at Coldplay for xyz reason. I wouldn't be surprised if Pitchfork just took that road and slapped a shitty number on it and got to make fun of the band for a little while. At the same time, I think they might want to seem "cool" (in that way where you are one step ahead of all the other cool people who give it a crap rating) and give it a relatively good rating. If you think that King of Limbs got 7.8, I wouldn't be surprised if it got 7. But I also wouldn't be surprised if it got a 4.3...so yeah.
