For eight series totalling 52 episodes Dave Lister wanted to return to his home planet. Now, 21 years since the first series was aired, he has - in Red Dwarf: Back to Earth.

Written and directed by Red Dwarf co-creator Doug Naylor, the new show reunites Chris Barrie as Rimmer, Craig Charles as Lister, Danny John-Jules as Cat and Robert Llewellyn as Kryten.

The series Red Dwarf: Back to Earth, will kick start a Red Dwarf Easter weekend from Good Friday on TV channel Dave.

This will be followed by Red Dwarf: Unplugged, a "no holds barred" episode with no sets, no effects - and no autocue.

The weekend will climax with Red Dwarf: the Making of Back to Earth, a behind-the-scenes special from the new production.

Dave will reveal news snippets from the production at http://www.joindave.co.uk.

Red Dwarf is Dave's biggest commission yet and its first foray into scripted comedy.

The offbeat series, set in space, has enjoyed phenomenal success since it first aired in 1988 on BBC2.

It brought in more than eight million viewers for series eight, sold 7.25 million DVD and videos worldwide, broadcast in some 25 territories worldwide and won International Emmy and British Comedy Awards.

I don't like the idea of this...

I love Red Dwarf, but it might ruin it

I thought the BBC would have wanted to have this exclusive. I hope it's not a half arsed attempt to promote Dave. I'm looking forward to seeing the new episodes tho, it's been a while :laugh3:

I CAN NOT WAIT! I hope they are as good as all the others :D

Awesome news, cannot wait!

Dave doesn't need promoting, where else can you catch up on classic episodes of QI, Top Gear, Buzzcocks and other BBC shows?

So the first ep was kind of bad, a few funny parts, but it just wasn't the same :(

^Well it's pretty much always a terrible idea to bring things back years later.

There have been countless occasions where it hasn't worked, and I can't actually think of one occasion when it has.

In the words of The Beatles, it's better to "let it be".

In the review I read on Digital Spy they said that the first one is the worst but tonights is going to be awesome- THEY GO TO CORONATION STREET! :D

Well if that's the case, let's hope they did everyone a favour and obliterated it.

:shocked2:

YOU TAKE THAT BACK!

YOU TAKE THAT BACK!

Why? I meant every word.;)

Hopefully in the next episode they'll destroy EastEnders and then work their way through all the other soaps so they've been exterminated for good.

Even better idea - send in the daleks!!

Second two were a lot funnier 'tell rimmer he's a smeg head', still wasn't very good overall, better than no red dwarf at all though!

^ I agree with that! :P, Those kids were awesome!
