Tnspieler1012
After discussing Jonny's riffs and Guy's bass playing, that we best not leave Will out of the discussion. So what are your favorite of Will's drum arrangements? Here's mine: Animals: I remember a live performance in australia that really sold his drumming for me in this song. Shiver: Kind of a cool pattern, really like the snappy sound he gets during the verses. Trouble: Very delicate, because of the softness of the song but actually a very interesting rythm IMO when you drown out the rest of the song. Politik: Strict, pounding 4/4 all the way through, but you can't leave this one off the list when the drums are so vital to the song. In My Place: I've heard the beat is tricky to play. I'm no drummer, but I love how he plays the bass drum along with everything else in this one. Daylight: There's something that really stands out about the drums in this song. I thought it was worth a mention. Square One: And not just the intro either, Will's really great in this one. Fix You: The drum crescendo here is about the only thing I really like about this song. Talk: One of my faves, especially where he plays the hi-hat. LIT: Just really effective. Lovers in Japan: my favorite part is during the 2nd verse and the outro where Will sort of imitates the piano riff on the snare drum. Viva La Vida: Just because he plays the timpani and church bell. Always cool. Violet Hill: One of his all time best, with a lot of complexities, and, of course that pounding chorus beat. Glass of Water: I like the simple fast rythm during the verse, sort of different. I'd add more, but I feel like I've already listed half their songs. :P

Pseudonym
I was just listening to Twisted Logic, and his use of cymbals in that song is nothing short of legendary
Fixed
^ Isn't it just Will's tom drum that Guy plays live? No. Live, Guy plays a bass drum with beaters and Will plays his middle tom (which you can't hear on the album recording). There is another percussion instrument and I don't know what it's called. There is another percussion instrument and I don't know what it's called. I found out that it's a bhangra dhol drum that you can hear in Lost! fakfak
The Original arrangement(sp?) of GPASUYF. (especially the part abot 2/3 of the way in where it breaks down into just the bass drum before kicking up again to coincide with the guitar solo.) Sparks-Really cool, subtle jazz style drumming with brushes and such. Things I Don't Understand-Cool "post punk" vibe carried largely through bass/drum combo here. my favorite work from Guy and Will here...
Tnspieler1012
I actually sort of really liked the arrangement he used for 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' at Glasto '05.
Ziggy
I'm no drummer either, but have somehow tuned into Will's as part of the Coldplay magic. Now I have some things to look for. Thanks.
r2ro
42 Life In Technicolor Square One Fix You In My Place Everything's Not Lost - one of the first beats I learned to play. Lost - Just a shame the rest of the song is awful. I was just listening to Twisted Logic... Now that's an underated song. One of their few works with three beats in a bar, and also one of the few songs I don't think has ever been played live.
fakfak
If I may correct my earlier comments: It seems I got Things I Don't Understand confused with The World Turned Upside Down (the latter being the song I meant to list...)

Ziggy
DAAoHF After buying my 1st CP CD, Viva... (having been enticed by the single Viva La Vida), it was the rhythms of Death and all of his friends, and Lovers in Japan that hooked me on Coldplay. I moved on from that CD quickly, but I still especially love the irregular beat in Death and All His Friends. I assume Will was responsible for that. I'm very much looking forward to the fruits of thier new experimentation with complex rhythms. Can't wait!
Pseudonym
His best drumming is in "Sparks" by far.
