How much would you pay?? Bearing in mind in this day and age most stuff would appear online later on. I guess getting first pickings on tickets is a major selling point!!

U2 charge $50 lol

I reckon if The Play were to do it they would give the money to good causes - after all they give 15% of what they earn already.....

It's 25$ for the "Victims" (Killers)...

I was quite shocked to find out about that.

Is it common for other bands??

I don't know - they are so caring and giving for us fans - it would look very weird for them to suddenly take money!

So IF they'd charge AND coldplaying wouldn't exist, I'd pay of course!

Hmmm good question!

I guess it would depend on what you get for it. Front row seats would be a lot more worth than e.g. a free t-shirt (isn't that what U2 is doing?)

But like Sue said I don't expect they will ever do that, Coldplay isn't a band like that. They are so lovely

they're already embarasseed with the price of gig tickets, so I dont think they'd do it even though the money would go to a good cause. They would probably prefer you to give to charity by yourself, not this way. And, they like to give away freebies..

Anyway, to answer your question, i'd give whatever it takes, esp if that means first picking on tix.. :D

You found good words for what I think as well.

They kindly ask to support Oxfam - for me a much nicer way than "forcing" you...

Still can't find the right words...

And about the ticket prices:

Yes, when they talked about a "Coldplay bonus card" or something like that (during the radio acoustics marathon Chris mentioned it I think) I just thought how sweet that is.

It was in a funny context and even if it won't be implemented I loved to hear this thought!

Rewarding people who went to a concert!!

I wouldn't want to give away my ticket though :laugh3::laugh3:

Why can't I form proper sentences today??

Sorry. I'll go back to listen to "Back for good" now...

 I had trouble making that sentence too .. but I see what you mean. They're not preaching, just advertising.

I missed something.. what's the Coldplay bonus card thing ?

Give me a minute to find the right interview (there were so many at the end of January!!) I'll tell you then!

It's on my mp3 player...

Ok, it's def. on one of these!

They are all worth listening, but I'll try to find out which one it was at work.

Have a nice day!!

Every time people talk about fan clubs Debs answers that the band doesn't agree with the idea of charging fans for extra content... so don't think it'll ever happen... but... just in case... I would pay... as we pay for cds (and now the band wants to give them away for free, how lovely )

With the U2 fan club you do get a 2 disc cd of rare and remastered stuff. And access to pre-sale. Which with U2 is huge since there is a humongous demand for their tickets.

I'm probably going to subscribe just to avoid the ticketbastard.com I mean ticketmaster headache.

i think coldplay should charge for this kind of thing, by all means, but in the form of an organized fan club which has major perks. my mom has been a lifelong member of the pearl jam fan club, and coldplay REALLY needs to form one, for both the interests of money (which would ultimately go to EMI, so they'd be thrilled) and for the fans. in the pearl jam fan club, my mom gets first choice of tickets for every show several days before they go on sale anywhere else (which almost always results in very, very good seats), two (or more, i can't remember) nicely published magazines mailed to us every year, special merchandise offers, and a christmas present, which is always a vinyl EP of otherwise unreleased songs from the band. if coldplay did this, i would join in a HEARTBEAT. hell, i'd offer to organize and run the whole thing for them: my mom often tells me to drop out of college to organize a coldplay fan club that would be so good that EMI would offer to buy it from me :P. she thinks she could get me in touch with the pearl jam guys that originally set up their official fan club  (because that's how it happened with them: two fans got together and made a nice fan club, and then the band/management bought it from them to make it official, and the same two guys or whatever still are in charge of it. i would kill for that job).

however, they shouldn't charge for ALL content. they should still tweet and they should still post news and blog posts and nice things to the publically available website. however, there could be more in-depth interviews or more pictures (not hard or expensive to produce) in a bi-annual magazine for members.

of course, things like the songs from the EPs and scans of the magazines would get out on the internet, as they always will, but the real draw for most people to a fan club is the special ticket offers in various forms, whether they're discounted prices, first pickings with less competition, or better seats. that's something you can't leak to the internet, and that's something that would be worth a lot of peoples' money. they could make a freaking KILLING if they charged something like $50 for a membership and $20/year renewal after that, and fans would eat it up.

^Yup I agree with everything you said.

Here's hoping that the U2 pre-sale goes better this time around than last tour.

But yeah, I think its worth money if you do feel like you're in a club that you see benefits. Like you said sure there will be scans and leaks and stuff. But if you truly appreciate the band, you're going to love getting the first crack to read an exclusive interview...or you're going to love getting a vinyl EP or a cd in the mail that otherwise you wouldn't be able to get.

And also discounts on merch. For example with the U2 one, you get 25% off a tour t-shirt. I mean stuff like that is great for the avid fan.
