Coldplay's music makes you dumb?

Featured Replies

Lil' Wayne's music is horrible. He sounds like a frog, not to mention his rhymes are terrible. Now someone like Tupac was brilliant, he was a poet. I have always thought Coldplay wrote intelligent music as well. But the study overall is just stupid. I mean whatever music inspires you to be better at life and/or to comfort you when you need it, then I'm fine by that. I know for me Coldplay is what lights my fire!

Well I think if you listen to one style of music all the time it would make you dumb.

Smack in the middle of that graph meant "Average". Eyes, use them.

This is ridiculous.I'm currently doing my Phd.And what if you like different style?

Welll doesnt Coldplay fit into some Indie genre of music as well...............so that means we are the most intelligent, according to this stupid thing^^..........:D :P

I love Coldplay and I listen to Oasis and Muse..........    I'm really dumb.....:bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:

Some of it's true though. You can't actually appreciate Radiohead if you are a dumbass. Just like you can't actually appreciate garbage rap/pop if you are smart.

That's funny... Im a very smarticle person (no, seriously) I don't need any arse hole telling me Coldplay music makes ppl dumb... Damn, I can't get any of my school work done without listening to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

eh..I beg to differ. I know plenty of people who like Radiohead and they are dumbasses. Also on the opposite side of the spectrum, Chris for example, likes Girls Aloud ( no offense to those who like them :P) and he's quite intelligent (imo, anyway).

Maybe you were being sarcastic... if so then disregard my little rant

If this is the same graph I remember from several months ago, it was really poorly done, with only a handful of samples and I object to the whole format. People were asked to name their favorite band, which is just plain stupid off the back because no one only listens to only one band. Doesn't matter that I listened to chopin this morning, or radiohead all last week. Whatever validity this study's results have is marginal at best.

No I think you CAN actually appreciate Radiohead if you ARE a dumbass!!!!

Go Coldplay!!!!

You just made his point true!

Maybe those dumbasses like Radiohead, but they don't fully appreciate the music and all it offers. You really must be smart to get most of it.

Are you speaking from personal experience?

now now, there are multiple types of intelligences, different types of A**holes and different types of music to be or not be appreciated. The dumbassness of a person doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Define "appreciate".

People appreciate music in different ways; maybe some people are really into the sound of a song, meaning the different technical elements (drumbeat, guitar riff etc) and maybe some appreciate a song for its lyrics (lyrics that can be interpreted differently depending on the person). Or maybe a person appreciates a song because it holds a special meaning related to a specific time/event in their life.

I don't see what someone's intelligence has to do with any of those elements.

Taste is taste.

Exactly, I was wondering about how reliable was this study.

Apparently, not very much.

If I were to spearhead a study like that, I would request a multi-billion dollar grant to fund the formulation of a customized intelligence test that expands on the flaws of the standard iq test. Then I would draw up a huge database of musicians and artists along with an 'other' option, and then have test subjects pick a a maximum of 20 or 30 different artists. I would also have them select their favorite and least favorite genre's using a 'check the box' format. These test and surveys would be shipped to strategically located global locations to be taken by people of all races, economic statuses and nationalities. Finally i would try not to disclose at anytime what the test/survey was trying to learn, because people would be naturally inclined to pick "smarter" music than what they actually listen to.

^Unbelievable how a Caltech "researcher" could not come up with a methodology even a bit close to what you just wrote :dozey:

this is stupid:rolleyes: i listen to ALL of that music(except for pop, r&b, and rap) that makes you dumb, but im an honor student:smug: believe it or not:laugh3:

^thats just it. The stuff on my mp3 player spans from "damn son, you ain't too bright are ye?" to Rhodes Scholar.
