Watching the clip of them playing LIT at sound relief confirmed my suspicions about what Jonny plays in the intro. He uses an awesome effect pedal and tremolo picks the two highest A notes on the guitar (17th fret on the high e, 14th fret on the g string), sliding up and down to and from the 19th fret every so often.

And at the end of each verse you heard this little part:

Then he goes down an octave, and doesn't play much else until the chorus where he I believe he imitates the keyboards.

 

the notes for the chorus are:

repeated until you end with

But while those are the actual notes, I think Jonny plays something closer to this.

I honestly don't know much about pedals or what he uses for this song exactly, but you're probably right on both counts.

ahkey...i was just looking at his pedalboard the other day and it sorta made sense because in a number of live shots he's moving his foot back and forth

That would make sense, as his guitar fades in very softly.

Hey, I just wanna correct my electric chorus tab up their. After watching a couple other videos I see that instead imitating the synths Jonny just plays the same tremolo picking pattern as in the intro, just an octave lower.
