Mimixxx
The MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2009 nominations have been announced, with Coldplay, Ne-Yo and Japanese pop singer Namie Amuro landing three apiece. With domestic and overseas artists nominated in all 15 categories, the awards on May 30 will be something of a test for the international sector, which has been losing market share in recent years. Franz Ferdinand, Britney Spears and Katy Perry are up for two awards, as is local hip-hop artist Kreva. Perry will be making the trip to perform at the ceremony at the 12,000-capacity Saitama Super Arena, just north of Tokyo, along with Black Eyed Peas, Green Day and local artists Exile and 9mm Parabellum Bullet. More acts will be added to the line-up in the weeks ahead. This will be the third year VMAJ is broadcasting live from the Saitama venue, which MTV Japan claims has strongly boosted its TV audience - though it declines to disclose figures. Highlights of the ceremony will be broadcast later on MTV Asia and MTV China. Japanese artists have been picking up more awards in recent years as they have increased their share of music sales. Domestic artists cornered 81% of the market in 2008. http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/industry/e3i920ea739062c452e86262de4105cd70c

noonsun
The MTV awards are all about commercialism - this isn't a big deal, all the succesful bands are getting nominated, even Katy Perry. That said, it would be nice if they win. :D
