See, I'm not punk, but I was raised on punk music. My dad's a huge Dead Kennedys and Clash fan and my parents have both seen the Sex Pistols. I've always been around it.

Which is why mom got in a fight with some poser in an SP shirt at my school. She looked at him and said, "I've actually *seen* the Sex Pistols. I have Johnny Rotten's snot in my hair. What have you done?"

He didn't have an answer. Obviously.

Yeah... Generic/normal/everyday stupid boring crap gets on my nerves too.

i'm sick of debating over what's "real" punk. if your definition of a genre is so slim that you can't include any band that doesn't sound like the sex pistols or the clash or husker du, etc... well, it just sounds incredibly narrow-minded to me. the point isn't what's "punk" and what's not "punk," the point is whether or not the music is any good (incidentally, most current "punk" bands are god-awful). what's in a name, anyway?

i also think it's ironic that a culture that proclaims itself to be free-spirited, rebellious, liberal, etc., would be so shallow as to say that you don't count because of your haircut or style of dress, or that you can't really be a fan of a band unless you've seen them live, regardless of whether or not that band ever even existed during your lifetime.

ok, rant over.
