This is going to seem stupid...

...but I'd like some advice. =D

Next year, I will be a junior in high school. This means I'll be busier than I have ever been so far in my life. I'm taking AP US History, AP English, playing trumpet in band all year, playing soccer, acting for drama class, and I signed up for pre-AP Chemistry and AP Chemistry.

However, I pretty much fail at science. I thought it would be a good idea because my GPA would get a boost since it's a weighted grade for the entire year. Also, my counselor suggested it since I am looking into the health field (it's WAY too early to making career decisions, though).

If I dropped the class, I'd be able to take regular chemistry and a different class, which would be awesome. Also, the class is tiny and I wouldn't have any of my good friends in the class. It would be an opportunity to make different friends.

If I keep the class and do well, I would do better in applying for colleges. I don't know if I should worry about getting a 4.50 or even 4.25 since I'm getting 4.0s, but I'm an over-achiever. xP

I can generally meet most challenges and do well, but this seems sort of like some kind of wall lined with electric barbed wire.

So, what would you do? I tried to supply details without sounding like a douchebag screaming "HAY GUISE LOOK AT ME AND THE THINGS I DO1!1!11!" I hate when people do that kind of crap.

In the end, I know it's totally my decision, but input from others doesn't hurt.

Annnnnnnnywaaay, let's discuss the future!

A) It's not too early to make career decisions; I already know what I'm doing.

B) Drop AP English, that class will be far more work than those others.

Some of us aren't lucky enough to be born with such decisiveness! :p

I have considered that, but I absolutely love English and would feel pretty idiotic if I weren't in the advanced class. I'm pretty sure there's nothing left for them to teach me, but it's a matter of status among my friends. I would say, "Fuck that!" if I were smart, but I'm not.

Thanks.

Oh and by the way don't take regular classes, they suck. At my school the regular classes are just filled with a bunch of douchebags who don't give a shit about anything; it makes the class slow and boring. I made the mistake of taking regular English in 9th grade because I was IB in middle school and I got straight C's in there because it was a Nazi regime that I refused to participate in.

Oh well I suppose if you plan on going into writing then gopher it. I'd still take honors though...They have Regular-Honors-AP at your school right?

I've already taken all the honors classes that I can. From here, it's AP or regular.

Well I'm only going to be a sophmore next year but I know how difficult it is to decide to take advanced classes. I think you should take them and go for the challenge or at least try it out for a week and see what is in store for you in those classes and if you don't like them or think it's too much work then take the regular classes.

WTF? I'm a junior, I'm taking 2 AP and 4 honors. I guess it's just different for you guys...

Taking regular classes is simply illogical. Colleges would MUCH rather accept a student who went for the challenge, took honors classes, and got B's, than accept a student who took regular classes and got A's.

I know, that's why i'm taking only advanced classes next year.:)

What did you niggies get on your PSAT's?

I don't even remember. AND my results are in my senior project binder at the school.

I'd like to see those again, eventually. I already know that my letter of recommendation is gone forever. -_-;

take the advance classes. as a person who took advance classes all four years of high :uhoh: it definitely will help u out in the end. even though many blood, sweat, and tears will go into this. it will pay off.

If I had to put blood, sweat, tears, or even effort into school I'd quit.

well quit then. u have no idea.

Nope I've coasted through my first 11 years no problem. I even got 4 A's this year lmao. I didn't try once.

Drop any AP classes you don't feel very comfortable in, in your case, Chemistry.

As long as you maintain good grades and have plenty of extra-curriculars (which you seem to), you will not have any trouble getting into a good college. One of my teachers this year used to work at the admissions offices for a few different universities, and he told me firsthand that colleges really don't care about AP. They look at your overall GPA, your activities, and your SAT or ACT scores, and that's it.

Taking AP's is great practice for a college workload and it's great to challenge yourself, but do not sacrifice other classes or your own enjoyment of the year by taking an extra AP that in the end, really won't make any difference.

I'm not taking any AP's... Junior English at our school is like hell. The teacher is awesome but he is way too demanding... I took Pre Ap English...and it was way too easy... I'll probably take AP History my senior year just because the teacher is awesome...but i really don't want to...

But yeah, take all the Ap classes!! :)

I took all the AP classes I could during school. It may be a lot of work, but it will really help you in the long run!

I wish I was born in the US and went through their (its?) educational system.

But yeah, I guess the best way to go is to take those classes you really enjoy if you have that option. Otherwise working hard in high school will only pay off for university; you may finish high school without much effort (seriously, I don't remember studying all that much for my final exams), but university is not like that. Depends on what you're going to study and how talented you are, but just listening to the lectures won't be of great help.

The American education system is a complete load of shit. The textbooks are biased, the teachers are biased, the curriculum is biased. I HATE IT.

But you can choose to study whatever you want. We were stuck with 11-14 classes each year. I managed to have 7 in last year of high school, ha! :D

We can't choose whatever we want...if we could I'd drop everything and just take business courses already.

Then I got it a bit wrong. But you have at least different levels of the same subject, we had that for only one year before final exams. Things are different now, but back then, you HAD to learn a 3rd foreign language even though you were more of a science fan.

Oh yea I guess that sucks. I guess I should just be happy with what I've got lol. I'm about 3 years ahead of most students in math, so I've got it good.
