Do you consider yourself British or English first?

Featured Replies

That's a load of bollocks as well, because they weren't actually native there, they themselves migrated there

Everyone migrated from some other place. The people Britain came from somewhere else a long time ago too. I would consider them more American because they were hear before most others, I don't even know if there were any groups of people here before the native american tribes.

don't forget Central America, we'd have like 10 continents if we'd have 3 continents called something-america

the divisions are about culture, that's why we have anglo america/latin america and the antillas

Where the fuck is this central continent? It's quite clearly NORTH and SOUTH

what the fuck?

the part that goes from the south of mexico until the north of colombia, including countries as guatemala, panamá, etc

central america isn't technically a continent, just a name given to the stretch of land and countries between Mexico and Venezuela. its still north america. Its less cultural than in relation to the equator.

I guess Saudi Arabia must be it's own continent too? Since it sticks out a bit? It's just needless.

Good point.

it seems that we learn different things at school, in all the maps I have, america is a single continent divided in 3. maybe it's a cultural thing. Still the US are not america

Its just easier to learn geography with the Americas split into three. When I studied for geography bee's, capitals and such...Central America was studied on its own map. That doesn't make it a continent though.

They have schools in South and Central America? I thought only the US did.:inquisitive:

Even on the most broken down version of the continents (the one I use) Central America is still part of North America.

:thinking:I guess my mum sums it up best when describing herself then...."British Okie":D

Well with the program I used the US and Canada were both separate because of all the provinces and states. Not that I couldn't do that with any old globe, but it was stimulating to see the territories light up when I got the capitol right.

Even if that was a ironic reply, some people still thinks that way about Latin America

I know, I was making fun of them. I have a friend from Peru that got a good education their before he moved to the states and is attending a state college.

how do you know?

I've heard it from many sources, people who thinks that until the visit the place

This thread is fucking awesome.

Especially compared to all of Albie's...............................

:\A bit more back on the thread question...

I often do notice here in the States, that when visitors from Britain are asked "where are you from" the majority reply "Britain".

Therefore leaving one to wonder "which", and having to ask again...

Some reply, "English".....very few just say which country/county/or city.

As if assuming no one would begin to know where a particular city/town/region would be. Just an odd observation.

Off for dinner out- all this popcorn only sparked my appetite. Night all.:)
