CLASS OF 2011

I just tune out school when I get bored. Hum some song in my head, nod, and live in my little world.

But no one should listen to anything I say.

Class of 2010 ftw

Our year number looks so fucking cool...2010

I just tune out school when I get bored. Hum some song in my head, nod, and live in my little world.

But no one should listen to anything I say.

Most of my teachers learn that I'm different eventually, so they just let me do my thing. I can learn all of the necessary material without listening to a word they say.

I pretty much never did homework and never got told off for it

Once, my teacher was giving out detentions for not doing homework he asked me

"Where's your homework?"

"I haven't got it"

"Why not?"

"I just didn't do it"

"I admire your honesty, no detention for you"

It was like the best thing ever at the time.

Fuck yea lol.

You're lucky. I'm that weird kid in the back that listens to her headphones, draws unicorns and turtles in her notebook, and still everyone copies from me because I "look smart." And then my teachers try to get me to participate more and help all the other kids even though I'd make the worst tudor ever.

Haha, dude! I got kicked out a class once for wearing a fake mustache and my teacher sat me down and told me, "You're so much better than this." Because apparently wearing fake mustaches was the worst thing a student could do to a teacher.

I gave that excuse before thinking it would totally work and it didn't. :(

Haha fake mustache, nice.

I hate it when teachers say that "you're so much better than this". How the fuck do you know how I live my life?

I've had two teachers in the past year tell me I'd easily be valedictorian if I gave a shit...but I don't! :D

You're just not as awesome as I am.

That's probably true, I'm afraid.

And I'd love to be able to not care about being valedictorian, but I'm barely struggling to keep in the top 10 percent of my class and I'm trying to get some good scholarships. Which, okay. The only reason I care about college is because it's a good way to leave this state. lesigh.

Yeah, I was the same tbh Josh, I had all the natural talent, but didn't care enough to apply it.

Now I've had a couple of shit years because of that attitude, but hey I've grown from it and I've pretty much lost that attitude now

I care about life and everything else, I just don't give a fucking shit what some 80 year old woman has to tell me about Native Americans. I can learn more in 20 minutes of browsing the internet than I can in a whole day of school. I'm a hard worker, don't get me wrong. I just refuse to work at school.

Sounds like I'm like Nathan and Josh.

I was in advanced classes in elementary school and got straight A's in early middle school. Then I got real lazy and slipped and since then haven't done amazingly in school (still A's and B's). But if you told me 6 years ago I'd be in a Level 2 math class I'd have laughed at you.

Right, I guess I just had good teachers then. I got lazy because my intelligence made school easy, so I got used to not having to try

What's level 2? Is that good or bad?

So would you two classify yourselves as autodidacts? In my opinion nearly every intelligent person in the world is an autodidact. (Einstein sucked ass at school)

That's exactly what happened with me. When I got to high school I was used to putting in little effort and getting good grades, so I bombed the first half of that year until I realized I needed to put more effort in, and I turned myself around.

What's level 2? Is that good or bad?

Level 1 is best, Level 3 is worst. Basically Level 2 is full of idiots and druggies, or the occasional lazy smart person like me.

I'm not a autodidact. I learn well in school, I'm just too lazy to do a lot of homework and studying.

Yeah Josh, I'd probably agree with that, although I do still see some merit in some methods of teaching, good teachers are always good.

Yeah Fitz, I was fine through high school, it's just a case of me getting "good" grades instead of "excellent" and then when I went onto higher level stuff I just hadn't changed my attitude at all and that's where it all went wrong for me, but it's more complicated than me just being lazy, I ended up picking things I hated etc and dropped out

I look back and realize if I had known how important it was to work hard, I probably could have gotten near straight A's through the end of high school. But once you start down the slope, it's hard to stop. Now I find it difficult to work hard, especially in classes filled with people who don't give a shit, and even worse, a teacher who doesn't give a shit.

Oh yea I'd also like to throw in that not giving a shit about school makes it a hell of a lot more bearable.

You could always drop out, join the circus, and... I don't know. Think up "get rich quick" schemes for the rest of your life until one of them works.

The belief that you need school to be successful is a myth. Some people do, but a lot of people don't.

One guitarist I admire, Glen Hansard, dropped out of school at 13 to busk on the streets, and head a record deal by 18.

Then again, he was in a crappy school and was pretty much guaranteed a future working in a shop. If I do well, I actually have a lot of options.

Eh, I'll keep giving school a try.

Both of my parents dropped out of school. :)

I wasn't implying anything, I was just saying it in the same way I tell everyone about me being a human statue when I graduate high school.
