Selling millions of records does not make a group. Many of their songs give me absolute chills. Listen to the last 2 minutes of Hope There's Someone and tell me if it isn't intensely beautiful. Their last album was bliss as well. Sometimes I hate it when a band hits it big.

Last year The Elbows won over the face of the radio, despite Inside the Rainbow being the palpably better LP. This annual, silly woman won when the much prettier Bat For Lashes lost with My Second Son.

Well, at least the Polaris Prize is still picking great albums so far- this years nominees are great from what I've heard of them.

 

It kind of makes sense to me that she won from that one song. For the genre, the girl seems to have a way with words, and she seems to be solid without being scary (Lady Soverign) or slutty- at least in that video.

 

It is a jury prize, after all. It's about which album the jurors liked best and thought should win- not which one was most popular or highly thought of or lasting.

After a few years at going for known-acts (Arctic Monkeys-klaxons-elbow), it was about time the mercury judges went for an 'unknown'.

Still no "token jazz" winner though :P
