MK
I just found out, half an hour ago, that we won't go to school this week. Of course, we'll have to make up for it, either by going to school on Saturdays or going to school during breaks. Discuss.

EmmaLouiseSmyth
what the ? :wtf: We can miss twenty days out of the school year, and anything more than that is just really frowned upon. :laugh4: Our deputy principle isn't too strict on missing days, when i went to see coldplay, she was all chat and she wrote into my records "reason for absence" : Coldplay :laugh3:

EmmaLouiseSmyth
Is that the situation in America? The whole making up days? That's awful if i'm honest. My parents agree too.

SimpleBlur
I think we should be sent out of School because of Swine Flu. 8 First graders got sent home today with symptoms of it, however, our state will only test for Swine flu if you have multiple conditions...:uhoh: And then about 4 or 5 people in my grade got sent home today too, I'm scared...:(
MK
how do you feel about this Milica?:D I don't know, to be honest. It's not like we get extra days without school. I don't like that we'll have to make up for it. I guess it'll have some positive effect, but I could also get the flu if I go to a training, take a walk, ... so it isn't fully protecting anybody, unless they decide to spend their time at home the whole time (I don't mean just this week). FluMTonks
don't be scared, it's really not that bad - I went to St. Francis Prep (you might remember that name from the news: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/25/nyregion/25sick.html) That Thursday within an hour and a half, 80 kids were at the nurses office. The next day, about 500 kids were absent (out of 2700 kids) - 4/5 my five classes had only 8 people in it. They closed the school to clean it, and then what happened? All the kids that went to SFP went and hung out with each other spreading germs regardless. Only around 100 people had it, out of 2700, that's not that bad at all. They were quarantined and what not, but when you look at the deaths that occurred in the U.S., all the patients died because of other complications like pneumonia, so there's nothing to be really worried about. The two people I hung around with all the time had it, and I didn't catch it at all. Just keep naturally clean habits, wash your hands, sneeze in your elbow, yadda yadda yadda. What's worse it that they closed school the week before AP exams, so none of the curriculums were finished and there was no review for the tests. We also had to make up the school - but since I was a senior, I didn't really go to the last days of class anyway XD Hopefully when you're not in school, they won't continue to give you school work. MK
I'm not worried. I'm doing my best to stay healthy (but hey, that should always be done). :nice: I have heard about those complications too. I've listened to a few short interviews with various doctors and such on TV, they are so different, and it's usually easy to tell when they're lying, making up stuff or just being idiots. I'm still hoping to find out more about the whole thing before I form a real opinion. It's obvious, though, that it's been blown out of proportions, at least here. Thanks for telling me about your experience. Exactly what I was talking about, we could get the flu without going to school.

I like to imagine that was put down on my one, which it wasn't to tell the truth! Anyway, I had the last laugh over my fellow students last year. 'Why you not going to be here' 'Going to see one of the biggest bands, if not the biggest band in the world'. And they were stuck on a little island where the best music they got was from two old men at the corner of a pub!! Ha! Screw you fellas!
