Rolling Stone's Albums Of The Decade

Featured Replies

Basically the people who set up the calendar were a little short on foresight. The first year was naturally year one to them. It didn't occur to them that it would make everyone's lives a little bit easier for thousands of years to come if there was a year zero. (Actually, in the west the concept of zero didn't really exist at the time.) So strictly technically Tonsu is right. For all the y2k nonsense, the millennium actually began in 2001 along with the current decade.

BUT for convenience sake, everything is arranged and remembered as if there had been a year zero. So in reality the decade lasts from 2000 to 2009 and the next decade will be from 2010 to 2019. And the only time anyone ever cares is when the decade flips over and the technical nitpickers start wittering about when the decade actually ends. It's the same argument people have about which day midnight belongs to.

I prefer In Rainbows, but Kid A is incredible. The way Radiohead went from poppy guitar-y stuff to abstract computer generated stuff (but with the edge that OK Computer gave) is amazing.

Kid A <3

and then your second child will be Kid B? :P

NO I think he'd rather name him amnesiac :P

I like the list, really not only because a radiohead's album is the first one, it's a really solid list, but M.I.A.? Seriously go to hell with that one, and amnesiac over In Rainbows? I disagree.

Oh yeah and I think they were right of adding 2000 to 2009, taht's 10 yaer and a decade, although it's not accurate if we take into account centuries (like space cadet already mentioned about year zero)

When I found Kid A I remember always at first, that people met him with bewilderment, but when I begin to listen it, this seems strange, because at least 90% songs on him are masterpieces!

Kid A is definitely not the album of the decade. Extremely overrated IMO.

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is pretty good....but definitely not a number three.....Wilco have made better albums...

Glad to see Sleater-Kinney on there though!

sidenote: Pyramid Song is Radiohead's very best song ever made. haha

I'm pretty much guaranteed to name my first born Kid A so I'm happy with it.

:laugh3:

In terms of Kid A, it's not my favorite album of the decade (that goes to In Rainbows), but I still think that it broke boundaries that no other band has really done.

Agreed about Kid A. I think it might take a while but hopefully people will start to see it as a classic more and more and realize what a rare gem it truly is.

Hmm....this is mostly predictable and unsurprising. In fact, it seems like they took pitchfork's list and reshuffled some of the albums; replaced albums of some bands for others (aka choosing Elephant over WBC as their top album which is wrong...); and added a few albums of their own (Killers, MGMT, etc). And speaking of MGMT what is that doing at number 18 (way too high)? Were they on drugs when they threw that in there? One of the most incosistent albums of its respective year, besides a handful of good songs. Also, Spoon's Kill the Moonlight is way too low, easily top 20. I suppose, being close to pitchfork's list isn't really a bad thing (probably the best one so far)....or maybe it is depending on your view of that site.
