Id be freaked out.

I should cancel the trip I planned for Ireland. I was going to swim across the ocean to visit you.

Hahaha! Oh cmon Nick, lets meet half way across the Atlantic, high five and then turn to home.

I can see myself talking to my grandson one day. "Did I ever tell you kids about the time I swam half way across the Atlantic to high five someone from the Coldplaying forums?"

"He sucked at high fiving!"

Haha it would suck if we swam for many weeks to meet eachother in the middle of the Atlantic, didnt say a word to eachother, and had one of those really awkward high fives. Yknow? When you dont really make good hand to hand contact and then theres a cringing pause?

That wouldnt be good.

I thought about going to Abilene and showing up at a random Rocket Boys show. I went to almost all their shows in Florida and hung out with them last year. I'd tell them I hitchhiked across the country to see their show.

Ooh, that reminds me! One of my teacher's son's band supported them once, or the other way around. I can't really remember. :P

Back on the subject of walking.. Actually, I think it's a really neat idea.. There was that 85 year-old lady (Granny D) who walked from California to Washington DC, promoting campaign finance reform.. And John Muir (who came from this loony state) who walked his way across the country (largely a wooded nation then). And I did have a cousin who biked all the way from British Columbia - @ the Pacific Coast - to here, mid-continent - a great feat as well, and one I've dreamed of making (but in the other direction)!

I would say 'go for it'! I've picked up hitchhikers, and with no troubles - they were on their way to Alaska, but first to Colorado to work construction, then up to the interior to homestead.. it's not all that uncommon.

Read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy first though..;)

Good luck Nick!!

My friend was with a group of people who rode bikes from Jacksonville to California to raise money for some cancer charity. I always thought it would be cool to do that, but I wouldn't have anyone to go with me or drive a car along the way to make it more safe.

I'd love to Hitchhike across America.

I'd like to see how all America looks now before it gets any worse than it already is.
