My fish lost its trust in me :(

Featured Replies

I recently got a betta fish, and believe it or not, we're really tight. Well...were really tight. I chose the little guy, affectionately named Zachary Falcon, because when I put my finger up against the glass he swam right up to me. He's a smart little fish, when I first got him I took pictures of him to show my family and friend. Every time I put my camera up to take a picture, he was perfectly still, but then when I went to press the shutter he would turn away. He's also really calm when I change his water and doesn't fuss about.

However, the worst has happened. No, he's not dead.

While I was changing his water today and went to pour him back in his bowl, my usually calm fish, jumped just as he was about to go in and ended up falling to the floor. I had to rush to pick him up with my fingers and pop him back into the bowl. He's alive, and seems to be well, however now the smart little fish that used to swim to me whenever I put my finger up against the bowl or come say hello when I go to the bowl to look at him is gone. He's traumatized and is scared of any human hand that comes near his bowl. :\

Now I'm really sad

My brother tried raising fish at one point. They'd all die within a week. But then again, they WERE Wal-Mart fish. Go figure.

I'm sorry to hear about your betta, though. :\ That stinks.

I have a friend who owns one. She named hers Puccini, after the composer. :wacky:

what kind of bowl do you keep him in? I used to have betta's, even tried breeding them at one point and its annoying when people keep them in tiny spherical vases where they're forced to constantly spin around.

^I'd be crazy not to follow.. follow where you lead... YOUR EYES...THEY TURN ME...:bomb:

/Radiohead reference

That bowl is too big for him. When we had a class beta fish once, it had a larger bowl like that, but a castle to swim into as well so that the big space didn't traumatize him so much.

Maybe he needs some time to get over it? A good hiding place would help.

humm...he swims around all over the bowl usually. should i buy something so more space is taken up in the bowl?

^He might like it. Beta fish are used to living in little pools of water so they like small spaces. The bigger space might not have been a problem until he was traumatized. If it doesn't work you can always take it out again.

I have a beta fish named Citrus. He's pretty good with people I guess, but he just sits there. :blank: More than likely because the water's always 60 degrees farenheit :P

i don't keep him in a vase, I keep him in a small classic fish bowl like this one: http://www.aquariumguys.com/fishbowl.html

He has room to swim around and two plants to hide behind. Which he has been doing all day :(

Ohhhh that's so cool! He's probably just in a state of shock, give him some time to get over it maybe. :P

I doubt there's much you can do since you almost killed him and all.

Just keep swimming,

Just keep swimming,

Just keep swimming swimming swimming

:awesome:
