Why are people complaining about popular music? we really should be complaining about COUNTRY MUSIC

You will be delighted to know I had to suffer going to the Tamworth Country Music Festival because we were in the area at the time and my father thought it would be a GREAT idea.

It wasn't. Point and laugh!

It's opinion, but its not random or relative, there are certain objective principles upon which we judge the music we listen to. When someone says something is shit, they are obligated to back up that claim, in the case of kesha the reasons why we say its shit are so obvious, its pointless explaining why.

True,

This does kinda fit what I was going to say

Thank you for this

Actually, no, it's not fact, it is indeed opinion, even if I do think she is terrible.

Although ivet and shane you are both not helping with your combined retardedness. Why is it shit? Why do you hate it?

I think it's catchy enough, but the lyrics are a bit erm... well, they appeal to the partying pop/dance-loving girl, and those types are the ones that actually bother to vote heaps and heaps of times to get a song high up on a chart. I do have a bit of RAEG but I'm too busy doing something more important called schoolwork to bother.

Glad to see you're aware of the truth

I must apologise for my extreme retardedness

I honestly am indifferent about most pop groups/musicians

I don't really hate them and I don't love them

Same goes for Justin Bieber.;)

OMG JUSTIN BIEBER NEEDS TO GO THROUGH FUCKING PUBERTY ALREADY

*tears hairs out* :wreck:

I YouTubed that Ke$ha song to figure out what everyone was talking about. I now completely regret doing so.

And that is (currently) my lame contribution to this thread. :P

True,

This does kinda fit what I was going to say

Thank you for this

:wtf: omg...

people are too hard on pop music. it's not meant to be taken overly serious. We all know alternative, indie, rock (whatever you want to call it) is heavier, deeper, more mature music. If you want to dance though or just have a good time, i might put on kesha before something on my ipod....

thank you for posting this good sir

So are you saying that you can't have mature pop?

Some people would categorise Coldplay's last album as "mature pop". Nothing wrong with pop per se, just the type of pop it is.;)

I don't view Coldplay to be very pop at all. Then again, genres are always very blurry.

True. There's good and bad pop, anyway, and always has been.;)

...That's not what I exactly meant by the genre thing, but that is also very true. :P

Thank you. :nice:

Chris Wolstenholme once said this about lyrics: "I don't think it's anyone's place to question people's lyrics. Lyrics are an expression of someone's thoughts, and people have the right to think about what they want." Sure, music's more than lyrics, but really, the concept could be applied to any aspect of music. People can do what they like with music, no matter how much people will like or dislike it. If people want to write a hip-hop number about gettin' some, then they have the right to do so.

Anyway, I digress. Yes, I know what you mean by that. Sorry if I failed to explain myself in a cohesive manner. :P

what is going on here!! mature conversations!! clear defined arguments, no insults, no mindless bullshit!!

WoM HAS SOLD OUT!!!

i guess i should make some contribution to this discussion as it has been on my mind all morning.

i was thinking if i got the chance to DJ a party or a club what music out of my music library would i play. after spending half n hour scrolling up and down the lists, i found next to nothing aside from the odd daft punk classic.

then i went over to the top 40 charts. and found lady gaga, kesha, kid cudi, rihanna, black eyed peas. music i find painful to listen to but in the right atmoshpere ie a party or club this stuff sounds much much better than your critically acclaimed alternative masterpieces. it gets people dancing and makes them feel good even if it is incredibly superficial and stupid.

and i must admit ive been loving the kid cudi/ david guetta song, no idea what its called but it sounds pretty awesome.

You have a point there, but there's better stuff around for that.

There are is some good stuff on the top 40 charts though. I actually really liked that Single Ladies song...haha!

True, what is played at many parties includes the likes of GaGa, Black Eyed Peas, Bratney, Beyonce etc., but that's how it's always been.

^^

yeah i totally agree. i refuse to believe that alternative music fans from the 60s and 70s loved the pop music of their time more than the alt music fans of today enjoy current pop music.

and by "pop" i mean the songs and sounds that dominate the singles charts (album charts tend to give indication of good music) at any given time. as opposed to a specific type or genre of music. there alot of bands who are widely considered as "pop" but have never seen the charts.

i love this song

it has nothing to do with genres.... hell i listen to all kinds of music... ^ I fucking dance to Single Ladies all the time!

Kesha, though, is shit quality <3

yeah i always loved Single Ladies, glad to know im not alone haha

i agree its not all about the genres. its good music v bad music. but more often than not mainstream pop music is automatically labeled as crap while the more indie and underground someone is the cooler they are. its just the way things are.
