Bass Questions

Featured Replies

Hello!

Some of you already know me... my first post ever here was: Start to play the bass!

Well there's been nearly 3 months since I start, so I think it's time to start a new threat more general... I think that all people who play the bass here could post any question, suggeriment, song or video... whatever you want.

if there's any other threat like this tell me and I will rescue it! :laugh3:

So sice I have no teacher and I do not have lessons you're being quite my teachers... I have some questions.

How can I play in Offbeat??

Or distorsioned? it's something apart from the ampli and the bass?

I still don't know how to make the ampli work....

Good thread idea!

About off-beat.

If you listen to a song, concentrate on the drums.

Listen where the bassdrum and snare hit.

The bass drum is the stronger and the snare weaker and everything between them even weaker then that!

So see this pattern:

B w S w

B is the bassdrum and S is the snaredrum.

the 'w' is for weaker.

If you remove the B and S you see only the 'w' like this:

R w R w

R is a rest.

Now you have the off-beats. the 'w' is the off-beat.

BUT you can never replace a R, B or S with a 'w'.

Good example, Viva la Vida!

About the Distortion, effects! Chech out some bass effects and you'll find what you need!

What do you want to know about the amplification?

OMG....

I should have looked for it before asking... yeah now I know what you mean.

I've sound really silly....:embarrassed:

Hiya guys, I'm a bassist!

Have not been playing long, maybe a few month.

I have a Guy Bass... ok ok ok, most will call it a "P-Bass" lol.

I have the bass, a 20 watt practice amp, and all of the time and enthusiasm (oh and coldplay love!) in the world!

I'm trying to start a band off with my (amazingly good) guitarist friend, and I can play some Coldplay songs already, like Yellow ofc, VLV, Violet hill (so cool on bass!), Clocks, Politik!!!!!... and lots more, inc glass of water (in my own little way, but mostly correct :) ) and rainy day too :D

I wanna know about what Guy uses, I imagine he uses Hiwatt cabs, and possibly/apparently Celestion speakers yeh? But he seems to get this smoothness with his tone which must be down to more than his (stunning) picking technique! One site I looked at a while back said it was a "toneblender" dunno what that even is, or where/how/why to get one!

Any help...??? pretty please :)

It's more his technique! That's what makes him so great!

His playing is so good that it's not easy at all to 'copy' it.

Is playing is very smooth but he never misses a beat. THAT is what a good bassist needs!

If you see him playing with his pick, he's picking very smoothy and constant, try to play that way!

Try to play 'chilled' don't 'search' for the next beat but try to feel it, very important!

And to be exactly... P-bass isn't the correct name for it!

There are differences between a P-bass and Precision bass..

Guy is using an vintage Fender Precision I think from the early '70's.

He's also playing another Fender Precision, a red one.

Recently he started playing a Rickenbacker 4001 and He had a Jaguar and Rickenbacker 4003.

His effects can be found in this forum, by using the search :) With pictures!

ohhh!!!!

You know a lot!

OMG it will be years until I have a bass like this... :(

I have a problem and is that I hit (is hit correct??) the string too strong, I mean very hard... but I can't help it! And well my problem with pick.. I can't play with it. XD

A friend of mine asked me to join a band, but I've said nothing yet... I think I'm not preparred and I prefer to wait until I feel more self.confidence.. however some people have told me that I will leanr quicklier.. what should I say?

Turn your amp harder.. so you need to hit them softer!

And don't turn the amp lower till you can play softer :)

Say yes to the band!!!! It will help you! :D
