SURFER BLOOD

Hands down the best Debut album of 2010. I'm calling it with 8 months to go. I have had this album for about a month now and it is really great, reverb-soaked American east coast indie rock.

Anyone else a fan?

loving the debut. good chance of getting a top 10 for 2010. it's one of those albums that really does have its moments rather than being spectacular throughout.

YES.

Astro Coast is really good, probably among my favourites so far this year. :nice:

I'm seeing them in a couple of weeks  (Titus Andronicus is supporting :awesome:)

Hmmm, I guess I will have to listen to it again. I didnt really like it after the first couple of listens.

They were on my "to listen" list actually. I listened to the songs you linked. I didn't like the first one and loved the second one (has a little Vampire Weekend feel to it)!

I guess I'll have to listen to the whole album then :P

I agree with the Vampire Weekend comparison. They're part of my favourite new genre: "American Coastal Indie"

And their songs I might add are awesome to play on guitar

Ah, but thats the difference. VW are also in the "American Coastal Indie" genre. Not as surfy. I just hate the surfer tag, because if you listen to their songs they sound pretty non-surfy. Having it in the name and a lead single "Swim" doesnt help I will give you that!

^^

i dunno i get a real surfy vibe from tracks like Floating Vibes, Take It Easy and Neighbour Riffs. mind you this is coming from someone who lives 60km from the nearest beach so im not the most qualified to make that statement.

See the surfy vibe is what turns me off the music. I live about 30 minutes away from a beach but I just dont like that sort of theme being put into music. Dont ask me why.

It is however, Florida, where they come from and not Australia.

Back to the music.....

These guys are Playing Splendour In The Grass festival in Oz this year. I hope they come to Melbourne, and specifically The Corner, for a sideshow!

^^

is The Corner one level down from Festival Hall or is there a popular venue in between? because in sydney i can really only see them filling maybe the metro or big top luna park which hold about 1000 people.

I just finished listening to their album, and I don't really like it.

Oh its much smaller. It'd hold a few hundred. Festival Hall holds 4,500 there's no way they'd get a crowd that big. Nobody knows about them here that much, but they have had a bit of airplay on Triple J.

^^

basically what im asking is that is there venue bigger than the Corner but smaller than festival hall.

i cant imagine them selling anymore than 1000 tickets to any show.

Oh yeah, well the Forum, The Palace and The Hi Fi are all popular mid-size venues.

I read somewhere today that there is the possibility of The Drums / Surfer Blood combined show. Would be insane.

The new album is alright. Swim, Take it Easy, and Twin Peaks are good tracks, but the others are meh for me. If that Drums/Surfer Blood thing is true that would be awesome, I'm super excited for the Drums album!
