err, dont think it was planned...id imagine roadies would have all the instruments ready anyways for a quick song transition...plus it looks to me like his string broke which is why he had to switch..dont see why he had to smash his whole guitar up though just cause i string broke

That. So it would seem Chris broke a string and while waiting for the replacement felt it was necessary to slam his guitar into the ground. The only reason I don't think it was meant for entertainment is he wasn't smiling or laughing and he didn't acknowledge that he did it afterward. Seems to me like it was in frustration.
