Need Help with Homework assignment re: Coldplay's Don't Panic

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm a 13 year old girl new to this forum. I have chosen the song Don't Panic as a writing project at school. I need help getting some information on it.

I need to know the following....

What were they thinking when they wrote it.

Why they wrote it .

Thanks.

:D

Hi and welcome to the forum!! I see you like Guy too :heart: hmmm I would try some interviews but I don't think we have any info on What they were thinking when they wrote it. :( sorry maybe you can change the subject quickly??

Hi and welcome!

Thing is you never know how much truth is to things Chris says... :P

But Chris blamed Alice Hill a couple of times

She made him write a song called "Panic" which later became "Don't Panic".

Mentioned in the BBC documentary "Freefalling" for example.

Changing your essay to a more general topic or choose another topic might be the best thing to do. :uhoh:

I think it was wrote in the late 90's,

no way 2 tell wat they were thinkin about,

have you tries to ask the Oracle?

I don't think i can change the topic it's to late but thanks any way!:) :p

Well, you could always write about how Chris rarely talks about why he wrote songs, or make up stories that kind of differ everytime he tells them :P

Oh, and welcome :nice:

it wouldve been so much easier if you chose something obvious like violet hill about govt control or politik about 9/11 or yellow.... about bananas

maybe talk about what the lyrics tend to indicate *cough lie*cough

...mmmm like.... uuhh, how the video shows polution and bad things happening to the enviornment, but the song insists that we all live in a beautiful world

this could either be seen as sarcasm, or satire on how people refuse to admit something is wrong or... a positive view that no matter what happens, the world is beautiful because everyone has someone to lean on

you can also talk about how its the first track on Parachutes, 2 diff versions of it exist, one of their oldest songs, the prettymuch used that one the most when they were playing pubs and clubs trying to make it big

................yeah i .... i dk

sorry

I have a Coldplay piano book and they give some information about each song and this is what they say about Don't Panic:

"The opening track and fourth single released from Coldplay's debut album Parachutes. This song was one of six songs played at their first concert in 1998 and was first recorded in July 1999. Originally titled simply 'Panic', it was renamed after a quote from Douglas Adams' 'A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'."

It goes on to say in the Hints&Tips section (although this is more to do with piano playing):

"Each hand has it's own distinct line in the song, a style called counterpoint".

I have no idea if that helps at all though.

Personally I think that perhaps you could expand your project around Don't Panic. Talk about the early days of Coldplay. Give your personal view of the lyrics and what they mean to you. Analyse and talk about the video and what you think it represents. Maybe compare this song with one from their latest album (possibly a well known one like Viva la Vida) and see how they differ and how Coldplay have progressed with their song writing.

Anyway, I hope that helps. :)

^Our school won't let us use Wikipedia, they say that sometimes it isn't accurate.

But, Google/Bing are helpful.

That's what my school says too, but nobody listens to them :P

Well, how do they know?

Kill Bing :blank:

Personally, I hate Bing as a search engine. But, as a search for pictures, it's the only one we are allowed to use. I take a computer course called Business Technologies, so Bing is helpful for finding images and such.

Who needs Bing? Google's got it covered! I refuse to betray Google. :D
