We used to call it "Words Don't Come Cheesy"........................

Hello Lily / Léa and Mark,

I just read a few posts back and saw that you are talking about French music.

I was thinking of Denmark and French music.

Well, French music is not played very often in Denmark - and French hits are really rare. But this one: Words - don't come easy" was a major hit in Denmark.

And so was the song with the title "La ballade des gens heureux". I must admit that I liked both, but I can only remember the titles and the melodies really sing-a-longs.

EDITH PIAF had huge success in Denmark with the songs "Milord", "La vie en rose" et "Je ne regrette rien". But if you ask young, Danish people, they might not know Edith Piaf or her evergreens.

One of my favourite French songs of all time. It's so "cool"! :o)

Edith Piaf was a legend, of course, but we're actually having an Eighties "cheese" fest!:P

Oh, how cheesy. :cheesy::cheesy:

However, this song isn't cheesy - it's actually Celine Dion's best song of all time, in my opinion!

I never get tired of hearing it:

My favourite song with Celine Dion is - the song from TITANIC - My heart will always go on.

It is funny with Celine that she grew up in QUEBEC, I think. She only spoke French and recorded songs in French, but she learned English and started recording albums in English to boost her career - a very successful move.

She also represented Luxemburgh in the European Song Contest and won with a catchy song. But her big breakthrough came, when she started recording songs in English.

I first noticed her when her big hit "THINK TWICE" came out.

"My Heart Will Go On" was obviously her biggest hit and propelled her to "megastar" status, but I think there were better songs on that particular album, which was very eclectic indeed.;)

"Think Twice" was also huge, of course, as it featured in a hit film too, as did "Because You Loved Me".;)

Now for an Italian interlude! :D

Hello Nancy :)

That's right, french music is not very famous. Here, we have famous singers but they are unknown in the rest of the world . I realy like some of them but most in the "new generation". It's difficult to listen to this generation when you're not a frenchspeaking because the lyrics are more important than the music so if you don't understand you could think "but it's a realy shit" and we could think "oh my gosh this song is freaking awesome" but for the lyrics...

However, this song isn't cheesy - it's actually Celine Dion's best song of all time, in my opinion!

Ah, this song makes me feel nostalgic ! "Deux" (the album where thing song comes from) was my first own record, my mother offered me for my 6th birthday.

From Celine Dion I also love :

The man who wrote the biggest part of her songs in french is Jean-Jacques Goldman, is very famous ehee, for his song written for others artists or for his own song. I really love his band "Fredericks Goldman Jones" with Carol Frederick and Michael Jones.

My favourite song by Francis Cabrel, a lovely atmospheric ballad:

Ah Francis Cabrel  even some french people think is corny I don't agree with them, his music is certainly simple but he has some lovely lyrics and lovely melodies !

OK, as it's August, time for the best summer tune ever:
