Well I'm sure Coldplay's detractors would think that "mostly harmless" is a perfectly complete and accurate description of their music. :wacko:

 

But I refuse to believe that Chris could be best friends with a scifi geek like Simon Pegg and not know a thing or two about Hitchhikers.

 

Also, I was always under the (likely inaccurate) impression that Don't Panic (formerly Panic, I know) was an indirect Radiohead reference. Radiohead name a song after something Hitchhikers, so so do Coldplay.

I have almost no knowledge of Radiohead. Please explain what the hell you are talking about.

You know, some day- in the distant future- when you've listened to Coldplay's discography for the fifty billionth time and are really wishing they would finally put a new album out because you really want something new to listen to, you really ought to try out a bit of Radiohead. Where and what is the Council of Elrond you're referring to? :thinking: A new-ish message board? I usually just lurk on TORn nowadays. But I did go to the Gathering of the Fellowship when RotK came out... dressed like an elf... to watch all 3 movies in a big marathon... wearing my cloak... :blank:

I'm pretty sure christopher Martin was being serious with the lack of foresight there... as for you I don't know how on earth you managed to find yourself on a Coldplay messageboard and never ever hear about Radiohead. Hence why it caused me quite a surprise!

Hey people, think about this a moment: If there really was a Hitchhikker's Guide, like the fictional version, would it replace the Bible and/or Webster's Dictionary?

One thing I do know for sure is that chris is obsessed with radiohead.

Radiohead have a song called paranoid android, which is Marvin from h2g2.

I think Coldplay just wanted a slice of that cake and got their own reference to the story. But you can definitely hear the radiohead influence in early Coldplay stuff.

It's also funny because U2's been out way longer then Coldplay, but Bono says they infuence U2 :lol:

Yellow is also a hitchhikers guide reference.

A long time ago there was a girl and Chris Martin asked what her favourite colour was and she said it was Yellow and then they talked about the Hitchhikers books.

Yellow is the colour of the bulldozer of course. ;)

 

I'd be surprised if hadn't read the book or watched the TV series by now but maybe he hasn't...
