House Work

Featured Replies

After overhearing a girl, not much younger than I, talking and laughing about how she couldn't dress her bed sheets,

I got thinking about how much house work teenagers do.

So yeah...

If you're living with your parents how much work do you do around the house?

Or what did you do if don't live with them anymore?

And if you have children, what do you get them to do?

Myself,

I always try to help my parents. It's just become ritual on week days for me to lay the table when I come at 6. And then to fill up the dishwasher and wash the pots and pans after dinner with my sister ( who isn't always the greatest help D: so I end up doing most of the work :shifty: )

And of course I do help at the weekends too

I try to help my parents, I clean my room, make my bed, take the garbage out, and help them with the dishes. That's about it though.

Spoilt as a kid, when I moved out on my own I found housework very straightforward. I remember my mom showing me the important lesson of how to get a duvet into a duvet sheet, and it was like, do you think I'm retarded or something? Haha.

Same goes for washing clothes, ironing, cleaning, I don't need to patronise but it's not exactly rocket science. Though I will admit it took maybe a few years to realise you should put water in an iron and spray the clothes for better results, but it's still not a necessity.

The one thing I can understand is cooking, and more importantly, buying ingredients, that can be a bitch. I had an interest in cooking before I went into the big lonely world so I knew how to cook, but having all the ingredients and equipment was something I took for granted, it took quite a few months to get into the habit of doing a proper shop (Buying ingredients instead of just bottled curry sauce).

This said, I still know plenty of people my age (23) or older who still just stick shit in an oven, boiling grease, or a microwave. I do this as well here and there but it really shouldn't be your daily nutrition.

I walk the dog and i mop the floor

That's about it :blank:

I get laughed at for my lack of cooking skills :p

I can't cook and I'm 23 :blank:

That's because you guys both suck.

Reilly,

I was just watching a program with people around that age who did fuck all round the house ^

One girl said "I didn't even know where the oven was ... and then I didn't know if the timer was in seconds or minutes"

Yeah, it was like an irish version of it.

Just a bunch of idiots living in a flat and they have to make their own money, do house work and generally live on their own.

fools.

You've just reminded me it's been a long time since I've made a tagliatelle carbonara (so long I had to google it to make sure I'm thinking of the right thing) dayum dats good cookin.

I know right :charming: so nice.

I have to get my mam to teach me some recipes. She's the shiznits at cooking.

You mean this :laugh3:

That made me laugh a lot! When they started squirting Fairy Liquid in the machine and then all over the slot you put the detergent in especially!

I live and home and I wash the dishes every night by hand (!). Now I get help from my mum's bf, though, because I had trouble getting all my homework done. I take out the trash.

I vacuum when asked to from time to time. If my mum asks me to help with other things, I do that too, e.g. taking down the clothes or hang the clothes to dry.

My room is my own responsibility.

:)

I always help my parents when they ask me too.

I think I can do all the basic stuff like washing, ironing, cooking, baking....I really loooove baking haha....and I really like cooking, too...

haha and Reilly you're so right about taking the ingredients for granted...I've been talking about this with my friend yesterday....it sucks when you need to buy all the basic stuff you need for cooking yourself...

so, yeah I am prepared for my future life as a house wife...:wreck:

My parents seem to always have a problem with the asking.

I could go out and do house work and they throw it back in my face by going that I shouldn't have been even asked to do it. I should just know and do it D:

I sweep, mop, do the dishes, wash the clothes and fold the clothes. I also look after my younger sister.
