what! niiiiiick...

YOU ARE COMING TO NORTH CAROLINA? where exactly? :surprised:

you better come & visit us :wacky:

or else :disappointed:

you could even stay with us

but I think that might sound too stalkish :shame:

Are you being serious? I'd love to. I'm already meeting someone else from here in SC, so i'm always up to meet people.

I'm not exactly sure where, i was going to try to find someone in NC and stay the night there, then head up to Ohio the next day, see the family then come home and stop at St. Augustine and have my friend drive me to the Georgia border and try to bike 100 miles in and back in a few days. I'm taking 9 days off work.

Whaa?.. what kind of people would invent such a sport..or activity or whatever the hell this is.

I've never heard of this before. And it's sound quite creepy to me too... But I guess it works and is safe. It just wouldn't be for me at all...

Haha what's that supposed to mean?

I was talking about this with some friends today and one of them freaked out. Apparently it's extremely dangerous and i'm going to be killed. And she wants to have a detailed schedule of where i'll be everyday and call to check in. To me biking by myself is going to be far more dangerous than this. I really wasn't expecting anyone to think/say much about it.

Well, I've never heard of it, and because of that it's weird and stupid.

Loljk, but I must wikipedia this.

Oh, FFS, grow up and be free. Send her a postcard/ like a week after you get home.

i got the same reaction from some of my friends as well  i still don't see the creepiness in it.

obviously there are people on couchsurfing who have negative references (some of them are extremely funny) and i wouldn't want to meet them. but most of the profiles i came across are very detailed (as it should be) and many people are getting vouched for as well. i would never contact anyone without proper profile information or references. you need to be careful and things will be just fine.

when we couchsurfed in berlin two years ago, that girl left us her whole flat for the night (she spent the night somewhere else). i was amazed how much she trusted us, i wouldn't go that far as a host.

I'd feel weird staying at someones flat if they left.

I would do too, and the only person whom we left in the flat was the guy that used the living as his office. I never said anything about him come to mention that to my flat mates at the time !

it was alright, but only because i was staying with someone else. would have been a bit creepy if i would have been on my own ;)

Awesome! In a day or two I'm going to plan everything out so I can tell you what day/time i'll be there and see if it works out.

Got the next house lined up in Richmond, VA. Some girl, well at least I hope she is. Should be interesting. She has a cool blog.

anybody tried airbnb.com?

i wonder how much damage this couch surfing market is doing to the mediocre hotels (nice one fortunately don't get affected...except the economy has prob knocked down a number of their business to middle-class status)

I'm still going to try this hopefully in December. Try to save up 2,000 and do it as cheaply as possible after I save up enough money to pay for an apartment for a year while I go to my next school. Probably have to get a second job to pay for it.
