The Big Four

Featured Replies

in my excitement over seeing U2 live for the first time i started wonder if modern rock music had a big four (like many professions and sporting leagues do) who would be in it. this is what i came up with

The Beatles - highest selling band of all time

Rolling Stones - "biggest" band in the world for over 40 years

Led Zeppelin - the four most talented musician to ever be in the same band

U2 - stadium trotting for over 25yrs and showing no signs of slowing down

what does everyone else think? pink floyd? queen? ac/dc? bruce?

I mean, you would have a hard time replacing any of the top 4 you mentioned. If you did, it would probably be with the substitutes you provided. You might throw The Who, Bowie, Dylan, and The Beach Boys on the list. When I think "big bands", I think of names that any level of music fan is going to instantly recognize.

It's a shame we haven't had a big band in a long time. Radiohead, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Coldplay are probably the closest I can think of.

Muse? Possibly?

Muse? Possibly?

i mean through the history of modern music not just currently. as much as i love muse, they have a very very long way to go before they can stand alongside the bands i mentioned before.
