Last.fm trends: Coldplay amass almost 200m scrobbles, X&Y most popular album

 

Reading through the latest articles on Coldplay's concept album news, we've come across an interesting set of stats based on Coldplay's Last.fm trends, courtesy of KROQ. The band have amassed almost 200m scrobbles since Parachutes.

 

With just four albums the band have still managed to rack up an enormous 174,927,900 scrobbles spread across 3,272,423 listeners (that’s an average of 53 scrobbles per listener). 2005's X&Y has proved to be their most popular album to date, taking in 31,055,432 scrobbles, narrowly piping 2002′s sophomore album A Rush of Blood to the Head which has 30,360,549 scrobbles.

 

2008′s Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, despite being home to Coldplay’s most scrobbled track (“Viva La Vida” with 8,752,315 scrobbles), comes in at third with 25,320,204 scrobbles, although we may see it rise to the top over time.

 

The recent Christmas single, Christmas Lights, which was released on November 30th with an accompanying video, has already gained 104,002 scrobbles and has entered the band’s weekly top tracks, coming in at #9 this week with 12,171 listeners.

the times that a song has been restired to had been listened by the lastfm users from their music software on their computer (spotify, winamp, windows media player, itunes...).

 

so a band can get, as an example: 200.000 listeners and have 2.300.000 million scrobblings in total, of which 300.000 listenings are of the bla bla album and 100.000 of bla bla song.

Last.fm can optionally build a profile directly from a user's music played on their personal computer. Users must download and install a plugin for their music player, which will automatically submit the artist and title of the song after either halfthe song or the first four minutes have played, whichever comes first. When the track is shorter than 30 seconds (31 seconds in iTunes) or the track lacks metadata (ID3, CDDB, etc.), the track is not submitted. To accommodate dial-up user ,caching of the data and submitting it in bulk is also possible.

What is amazing is they are the artist in lastfm with more listeners,more than Beatles or gaga o whatever!
