Attention All Teachers or Wannabe Teachers

Try to make it fun ( in a school way ) but with still being stern.

You want to get their interest as soon as you can. Just think back to when you were in that grade and what you liked in that class.

But some students will be like "Oh she's a fun teacher, we can talk"

I really wanted to be a primary school teacher and I did 2 weeks work experience two years ago.

But I can't do it now cause you need honor's level Irish and I wasn't able for it ;___; it was so hard.

So I'm going for secondary school science teaching.

Don't have any nervous habits. I just got through having a student teacher in English for 4 months, and she had this nervous giggle that was worse than nails on a chalkboard. :|

I have no teaching experience, but when in doubt, give lunch detentions :)

If you do this, have them put their head down, no talking the entire lunch detention.

I've participated in a fair share of lunch detentions and usually I've found that people don't mind if they're interacting with their peers... :P

^Last year I actually got a lunch detention on purpose because the lunch detention teacher had no control and I had heard it was a lot of fun! :P

I usually just ask for lunch detention to stay in and do work :P

^ That's why our pupils get after school detentions. They have to copy out the school rules and they're not allowed to do homework.

same in our school ^

And why would you want to use up your lunch time doing that D:

I don't do homework at lunch time even when I need to do it.

I'm a teaching assistant and I mainly work with Year 10, 11 and the Sixth Form. I'm no expert when it comes to young children but I think playing games is a good way to get everyone involved. Younger children often get more motivated if they can win something [even if it's just points].

It might also be a good idea to make a mind map to get them to think about the topic.

You could try to use examples they can relate to [like a video of a child that's about the same age as them] but I wouldn't ask them for their personal experiences because some of them might feel uncomfortable talking about it.

same in our school ^

I didn't do that when I was at school either. I only ever did it if I forgot to do my French homework because our teacher used to get us to write an essay if we didn't do our homework so everyone always did it.

I suggest talking about 9/11, the Bermuda Triangle and Richard Dawkins the whole class.

Hahahaha! The poor kids will have to learn about time-travelling elves and alien lizards.

Yeah, with some teacher's there's this panic if you haven't done it.

If there's homework I feel I really need to do

I start, write about 3 lines and then go fuck it

and make up some shit excuse.

always works :charming:

I used to tell my maths teacher that I didn't understand my homework and I got away with it every time. :embarrassed:

Because often, my geometry homework is more interesting than my friends. :|

Well they're no fun

I couldn't even get much homework done with my friends around me :uhoh:

They're very nice, they just aren't very good at conversations. :P

conversations? my friends just mess.

Example of a conversation from this week

( NUMBERS = FRIENDS )

1:Here listen lads,

2:lads! ( mocking )

3:lads

1:glads

3:glands?

4:Haha glands?

5:Glands

Everyone ( not simultaneously) :

GLANDS GLANDS LADS GLANDS LADS AHHHHHHH GLANDS!

And then the teacher walks past and is like :| and then leaves.

THAT ISN'T A CONVERSATION

Is it possible for all of us to have adhd?

well, my school also does that

we only have lunch detentions for minor things, so it's like a warning for after school detention if the behavior continues.

I preferred when I taught the 15- 17 age group

No games and role play needed.

With 10 year olds you have to make sure that the games are not too childish or they'll get bored pretty quickly and become disruptive

One year one of my teachers punished students by making them eat lunch with him in his classroom and listen to monk chants. They had to face the back of the room, and weren't allowed to talk or do homework or anything.

I taught a girl with no ears. True story.

Haha, wow I was drunk.

But yeah, that was a tricky few lessons.
