Im surprised you like another artist that isnt alternative stuff :shocked2:

Glad though :P . Jennifer has an amazing voice.

I felt so sad when her mother and (Ithink) Sister were killed :( .

She have an impressive performance of Let It Be at the Haiti benefit concert . Truly amazing voice

Defenetely one of the best singers of her generation out there , with Christina , Leona and all of those artists :)

How come?

I don't think either of those singers is in the same league. Leona certainly has an impressive range, but I think she lacks "power".

Christina, on the other hand, relies far too heavily on "image". The last time I saw her on TV, she was dressed like a prostitute. Her song was awful too.:dozey:

Jennifer Hudson is living proof that if your voice is good enough, you don't have to resort to freaky costumes, dancers, shocking behaviour or cheap gimmicks in order to sell yourself.

On the other hand, diva cups aint negative.

They is usefuls.

This should be the Jennifer Hudson diva cup thread.

Didn't know what a diva cup is, ended up googling it and yeah.

Leona Lewis got pipes, but she's just so hollow. She have 0 soul. She can only land in pop.

Christina on the other hand is so soulful, but then again she does gimmick too much. I wish she can balance it out. Instead of dressing up whorefully, she can just take a note from Adele who is all soul no gimmick, or even Winehouse, with a little gimmick that doesn't hurt too much (well, it doesn't hurt her as much as Blake did).

If we see soul singers from previous generations, from Holiday to Franklin, all of them just sing their larynges off. Sure, a little stage presence would be great, but they can measure it down.

Hudson did not fall to the humps and lumps trend, I hope she never will.

I feel educated. Thank you, Greg :surprised:

:awesome:

Is it possible to have 2 smileys in a sig? :surprised:

I've never considered it.

I didn't think I'd get away with five brags in my sig for so long, so I suppose so.

I agree. I also find her voice annoyingly "shrill". It gets on my nerves very quickly.

Well said again. Adele has a clearly defined image, but it isn't a "manufactured" one like Christina's which detracts from her vocal skills.

I found Amy Winehouse's image a big turn-off too, as I felt she came across as "dirty".

Anyway, it was the drugs and alcohol that ruined it for her. She clearly has decent vocal skills, and can write too. Just not my scene.

Exactly. She is definitely from the same mould as the likes of Aretha (the best of all time IMO), Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Randy Crawford, Gladys Knight, Dusty Springfield, and Whitney in her pre-drugs days.

All great soul singers in their day (I have seen Diana, Dionne, Whitney and Randy live).

Of the more contemporary singers, Alicia Keys has a great voice too.

Anyway, I would now have no hesitation in going to see Jennifer live if the opportunity arises.

:awesome:

Christa had wondered the same because she managed to have 2 pics in her sig a while ago.

Seems it's possible when it's a quote, hers was in a quote, too!

Well , I was actually reffering to the tecnichal aspect of their voices. Leona ( I might dare to say its in a higher league than Jennifer ) , Christina , Jennifer etc. Whether you think they have soul or not , is up to you though.

The 3 of them have tecnichally amazing voices . The 3 of them :)

I don't think anyone's denying that. So does Mariah, but I've always found hers to be excruciatingly annoying.

Having an impressive vocal range isn't enough on its own. Its "richness" is even more important.

Leona can hit some amazing notes, but her voice doesn't have enough "depth" for me, and most of her songs leave me cold.

Again, I agree with you. If we are speaking about techniques, they are all at the top of food chain. They can cramp 10 notes into 1 syllable or hold the longest highest note ever. But again "richness" is even more important. Take a look at Norah Jones whose technique does not come anywhere near Lewis. But she delivers everything perfectly with her voice. She can reach high notes just enough to give one chills, not because it's a high note but because of how she put her feelings to it. And I think that is what makes an artist. (please stop me before I talk about Norah Jones all day long lol)

If I compare Lewis' Summertime to Fantasia Barrino's, I can see the difference of sinning with and without soul. And it's not in favour of Lewis. just my 2 cents.

Norah Jones is indeed a class act too. A true musician in every sense of the word.

She made a greeat impact on me the first time I heard her.

I'm not a fan of either of them, tbh. Fantasia undoubtedly has an abundance of power, but I find her rather OTT and I've never heard anything by her which has made me sit up and take notice.

She appears to have gone down that bland R&B route, as has Jordin Sparks, who performed on American Idol last night.:dozey:

I remember when I found out that Norah Jones was Ravi Shankah's daughter.

I like her song Don't Know Why. Wasn't written by her unfortunately.

l dunno, but Jennifer Hudson never come across as 'great' for me. Must be probably because of her song choices.

Try Come Away With Me, she wrote it herself... with a guitar.

Speaking of which, American Idol is a bad career making agent. just sayin'. Well, Jenifer Hudson was far from winning but she's really successful now, and where is Fantasia? This season is good in terms of voices but bad in terms of result shows.

Well , enough to give you chills. I mean , at least the tecnichal aspect of it is objective. Weather you feel the emotion , whether you feel the "richness" is subjective to the listener .

Usually Idol winners fail to do well leater lol. Kelly clarkson IMO its the best one and one of the biggest . Carrie underwood did pretty well for herself. Daughtry was good and Jennifer hudson . Neither of those were winner though

History has proven that in most cases it's better not to actually win the competition.

That way the singers get the exposure without all the hype and unrealistic expectations.;)

I prefer the voice of Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta.
