ok i'll write normally just for this rant.

 

i don't like when people bash other peoples music tastes because how can one criticize other peoples tastes. i can disagree with it as much as i want but not to put them down as a person because they like other music.

 

that being said people who are 'punk' now have no fucking idea what punk actually is. 'punk' now is everything opposite of what true punk stands for. true punk is being political and not selling out and being loyal to the fans and having some sort of message. what message do the 'punk' bands have now besides for buy the clothes i wear and buy our cds and come to our concerts? they don't have a message at all. punk used to stand for something, now it doesn't.

 

'punk' is just a phase teenagers go through and will grow out of when they come to their senses. sex pistols, the clash, the ramones etc. was the definition of punk and i'd say if you ask most 'punk' teens now they would have never heard of those, or don't know their influences. there might be a few bands around now that have some message, i think anti-flag does but i'm not positive, but the rest don't especially the really mainstream ones.

 

i say be original and like what you like and don't like what everyone else does. you are way cooler being yourself and original than liking punk or whatever thing is the next craze.

 

one more thing true punk was supposed to be individualistic but if everyone now is punk how can you be an individual?? think about it.

punk bands are wonderful i throw out the genre label and just look at the artist. im just more attracted to bands that are put under that shitty title. i.e. the used, and ataris. i shouldnt have said "ive turned punk" if i think that label is crappy because that would make me a hypocrite but the reason ive gaged my ears is not to establish me as "punk" or make it even more clearer that im into that kind of music but i did it because i like them and if you like a certain style so be it. i know this one girl who loves to introduce herself as punk she writes american anarchist on her purse writes on herself dyes in hair every other day and wears mucho mucho makeup. that is someone looking for attention and trying to be put under a label right. well im not like that. she is major poser. i wear skater clothes because i skate and to tell you the truth i only have vans and i wear them to school and to skate because it helps when you skate. but others wear them because they are trying to be PUNK. and taht is jsut stupid. there is a defined and clear line between just being yourself and being a poser who tries to be that kind of label. i dunno for me f0r some reason its a confusing topic only because every time i talk about it i end up sounding like the biggest hypocrite but im not. ahh friggin diddums. :angry:
