Will contribution....

Featured Replies

they are playing less and less LIVE (see the pre-recorded beats thing)

I don´t dispute your knowledge of such things as how much they play live. I just think they sound great overall and I enjoyed the Viva shows more than X & Y.

You might dislike that, but I do love the enthusiasm the shows have, together with how they care about little details, like painting instruments, clothes, etc. I have felt very much more involved with the show since Viva and am looking forward to more of that in the new tour.

Good for you if you like the new shows.

Personally, i can't stand these kind of shows, i'm more about REAL LIVE CONCERTS.

Will is drumming, Guy is playing his Bass, Jonny is playing Guitar and Keyboard and Chris changes from singing to piano to guitar. What else do you want? Gosh...

Of course those synthie sounds are not "really live" but thats all.

You mean stripped down concerts where there are only the instruments playing without much fanfare I assume :) I love those concerts as well and have been to a lot of them, but also loving Coldplay new shows. You can just ignore the laser lights and close your eyes: hopefully you will still love what you hear :)

yeah, and santa claus exist.

I don't really think they've forgotten Will or something like that,

I mean I'm a drummer and I drum almost all of their song and if I remember correctly In My Place has the same beat all the time , Yellow has it,

What If has it and a lot of older Coldplay songs.

I actually love to drum ETIAW it's really one of his best beats by my opinion and he gets a SOLO for the first time!.

Charlie brown has a really nice beat (but only to accompany the song) Hurts Like Heaven is so difficult cause Will drums so fast. And MTM and Paradise are very nice to drum too.

So I really don't think they've forgotten him or whatever. And we must face the facts Will isn't the best drummer in the world!

Oh and almost forgot Major Minus!? I think Will is very important and his drumming skills have improved.

uhm, to each his own i guess...but his drumming skills are not improved imo.

Something similar to that...

I'd still love to know what was wrong at Main Square festival.

They stopped IMP and started again from the beginning.

Fix You was also corrupted because a piano backing track (I think) started too early when Chris hadn't even had his fingers on the piano.

Weird concert, don't want to think about it anymore.

Agreed.

I really really really hope that this era will be filled with at least a couple of acoustic concerts. Those could be awesome.

Well, according blog 137 from R#42:

The gig itself comes with its own share of gremlins. In My Place gets derailed when Will throws himself so enthusiastically into it that his in-ear monitors become completely unplugged. The orchestra parts go off in one direction, as he bravely struggles to get things back on track, unknowingly taking a slightly different route…

If you watch the video closely, you can clearly see that Will couldn't hear anything. He couldn't hear himself, the backingtrack with the strings nor the other members of the band playing :)

Maybe Will has just given up. He doesn't even appear to be filtering out all the crap stuff like he was before. Instead of actually playing the drums he's just programming the electronic beats as if he doesn't actually care anymore.

I am sure Will cares a great deal, otherwise as I said he would have no problems being heard in the band. Everyone has such a reverence and respect for his opinion.

you are sure of things that you don't have a clue about it, if you are not a friend of the band or if you don't work with them.

I am not basing this on my being a friend of the band, clearly but there are more than a few clues! We have heard plenty of interviews where the band has told us that they look to Will for the ultimate advice and they have great respect for his opinion. Hell Chris is even afraid of him! :) Surely someone like that would not stand there saying anything if he were dissatisfied about something. An educated guess rather :)

Will--in some aspects--is contributing more than ever. His backing vocals are everywhere (which i like). And, HELLO.... Us Against The World? Will is the star of that song

I think it's the opposite - Will is contributing more. It was referenced numerous times way back by Roadie 42 that Will was 'experimenting' with electronic beats, loops, etc. (wonder if this began with the VIVA tour and the GPASUYF/Talk bit - which I think was Will's idea too). Also, 'Paradise' reminds me a little of 'Cry Me A River' which is Will's favourite song, lol. I know, trivia, but still. I think some of this beat business is a direct result of Will's input. He's also contributing more to vocals too.

He's still plays live, and I think it's a mixed thing, Because there was no drums at the main square festival, because he wasn't playing :P

Nah, all the beats aren't electronic. For instance, look at Phil Selway's drumming especially on the King Of Limbs, none of those beats are programmed.

Yeah maybe there's programmed beats in the songs, but the vast majority of songs have real drums...Every Teardrop, major Minus, Moving To Mars, Charlie Brown, Hurts Like Heaven, Princess Of China (possibly, we don't really know yet), Paradise does have real drums. So there, already we have every new song they've played, which has real drums in it...and maybe he's actually playing the electronic drums, drum machine maybe? And he wouldn't be sitting there doing nothing, of course he's made a big contribution! Listen to the drums on Every Teardrop and Major Minus, they're fantastic!

Point: redundant.

I'm sorry but the drums on Paradise, Etiaw and Major Minus are electronic beats and maybe even other songs on the album.

I never knew this! Thanks for sharing that piece of trivia! It shines more light into the mind of the great Will :) And yes I think he has full control over how HIS beats sound: I would not dare cross him hehe :)
