December 5, 201114 yr The longlist is out: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-16003723 What are your thoughts on this?
December 5, 201114 yr Meh. Dry The River and Niki and the Dove are the only bands I've heard who I like  dunno, really. Who won last year?
December 5, 201114 yr One of the worst BBC lists in recent memory. A$AP Rocky, Azealia Banks or Frank Ocean would be worthy winners.
December 5, 201114 yr Author Meh. Dry The River and Niki and the Dove are the only bands I've heard who I like  dunno, really. Who won last year? Jessie J did. UGH. I'm still bitter about that; James Blake should have taken it easily. Anyway, I'm up for Dry the River winning it. They're quite good. :D One of the worst BBC lists in recent memory. True statement. I mean, Skrillex is on it. SKRILLEX. Are you serious?
December 5, 201114 yr I don't really understand this but Skrillex is definitely the sound of 2011? 2012 too probably. it's crazy what's happened to dubstep
December 5, 201114 yr BBC Sound of 2012, aka the list of bands which the marketing companies have paid the BBC to be pushed the most next year.
December 6, 201114 yr Honestly the only one I've heard of from that list is Skrillex, and I'm just not a fan of dubstep. I don't really understand this but Skrillex is definitely the sound of 2011? 2012 too probably. it's crazy what's happened to dubstep Yeah agreed, last year I hadn't even heard of the genre dubstep, and now everywhere I go I hear DUBSTEP OMG <3 SKRILLEX SO PRO I LOVE THEM
December 6, 201114 yr I tried listening to Skrillex. I just didn't like it. :| oh it's awful music. Nothing like what dubstep was 5 or so years ago "Brostep is sort of my fault, but now I've started to hate it in a way...It's like someone screaming in your face for an hour...you don't want that." - Rusko http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubstep#Brostep
December 6, 201114 yr i saw Jamie N Commons supporting Snow Patrol for the Q Awards Show & the guy's got a great bluesy voice. he was the 1st support act, but clearly stole the show from the 2nd support act (RAMS Pocket Radio) as just about everyone was talking about him after the gig. his stuff's got quite an Americana feel to it tho, so we were quite surprised when he told some Americans who'd asked where he's from that he's local, i.e. a Londoner! (on top of the fact that most of us thought that "Jamie N Commons" is the name of a band) :dozey: Michael Kiwanuka was 1 of the support acts at Chris & Jonny's Little Noise Sessions...pretty good voice & very chilled out tunes. tho i personally liked Ben Howard more between the 2 guitar playing singer-songwriters playing that night. Spector i quite like after seeing them support Kaiser Chiefs (again at the Q Awards Show). tho i think i'm doomed to forever think of them as "the Harry Potter band" as their lead singer seriously looks like Harry Potter, right down to the glasses. all he's missing is a lightning scar! :P but otherwise, they play some broody, moody songs with an 80s feel imo. fave song from their set was Chevy Thunder. Ren Harvieu was one of the supports for Elbow's Little Noise Sessions & i have to say i didn't really get into her songs. not really my cup of tea. she did have a very strong powerful voice. but perhaps the sound was waaaaay too high for her set, but my ears hurt & i ended up having to use earplugs...tho that's not really me dissing her singing. i just can't really take very high shrill voices. she did an alright cover of Roy Orbison's Cryin' tho. don't really remember her other songs.
December 6, 201114 yr Author -listens to acts PolarMonkey mentions- 1. Jamie N Commons: ICK. Nope. Too country sounding. And even if it weren't, his voice bothers me. 2. Michael Kiwanuka: Mmmmm. That's really chill. I dig it. 3. Spector: Hm. They're OK. I might check them out. 4. Ren Havrieu: HOLY CRAP. Her voice. It's beautiful.
